Can we change our paper tickets - plastic card tickets?

I was wondering when my family & I are at WDW in December can we change our 7 day passes which have the no experation option & they have never been used, from the paper tickets - plastic card tickets? We purchased them on August 8th at Downtown Disney Guest services & already noticed a few creases in them & figure if we can it's best to change them before they get worse & chances are they will. So can this be done? If anyone can answer this I would appreciate it.

The plastic tickets are only issued through the Disney Store (and not the ones in Orlando). So no, they will not give you plastic ones at the park. If they are not reading, you can take them to guest services, and get them replaced. As long as they are scanning properly, I wouldn't bother though. I'd just take better care of your tickets from now on. We put ours in a clear plastic sleeve (with our fastpasses) when they aren't being scanned. The paper is pretty sturdy for paper, but I think many others would prefer the plastic, too. You can also get a paper sleeve to protect your tickets at any ticket booth, concierge desk, hotel check-in, guest services (go where ever there is no line).

The only other exception is if you buy a package, and your room key and ticket are on the same card. I'm pretty sure they won't put them on the room key unless you bought a package deal though.

1) If you stay on-site, they can be swiped onto your plastic room key.
2) Otherwise, no.

Even though the 'paper' tickets look like paper, they are actually made of a thin plastic cardstock (like a Tyvek material). AP are made of the same material and they hold up to very frequent use. The 'paper' cards are actually tougher than the plastic cards.
We've talked with CMs in Guest Relations and the have said they seldom need to replace the 'paper cards, but have to replace many more of the hard plastic cards - those get cracked and the magnetic strip gets scratched off.

Yep this is 100% correct. Tyvek is incredibly more durable than plastic.

Thanks for the information & for the record I should have mentioned this earlier. If you did not see my signiture in December we are staying onsite at the Contemporary. However instead of having them add the days onto our Resort ID cards, we prefer they give us a brand new plastic card, which we are using now on our pass that has 1 day left. It has a number across it & it also says not vaild for charging, so you know it's a park hopper ticket & not a Resort ID card.

The Tyvek tickets are a much better option than any plastic tickets Disney can issue. When we were visiting AK in March I watched one family vainly trying to get FPs at Kilimanjaro Safaris. They were using plastic tickets and the FP machines could not read them.

A kind CM was helping them and explained to the family that 80% of the problems they have with the FP machines are related to the plastic tickets.

Disney issues APs on the same Tyvek ticket stock used for MYW tickets instead of a plastic ticket and several Passholders have reported on the boards here that their APs survive numerous WDW trips over the course of the year (although they may not survive numerous trips through the laundry.)

There may be a belief that the plastic will hold up longer than the "paper" tickets, but it looks like it simply isn't true.

The plastic cards issued by the resorts are thicker and less flexible than the plastic tickets from the Disney Store - they crack instead of bending.

The plastic tickets from both the Disney Store and those issued at resorts have a far higher rate of failure from being demagnetized than the Tyvec tickets.

I like the Tyvec tickets best.
