Can veterans by discounted tickets? Or only active military? My wife's parents are coming into town and he's a vet.

I have no personal experience with this, so I could be wrong, but I think you have to be active or retired military, not just former.

Ok, so just because you served doesn't get you the discount.... you actually have to be RETIRED from the military (as-in, it was your career). I think he only did his 4 years and then got out.

Yes veterans can buy tickets. Even spouses. My grandfather was a veteran and my grandmother would come with us and get tickets.

Your grandfather must have been retired military, though, and not "just" a veteran? It specifically says only active or retired military and their spouses. My DH was in the Air Force for 4 years but he isn't eligible because he didn't retire from the military.

So, if he was medically retired from the armed forces or retired after twenty years, he's good to go. If he served four and choose to leave on his own, he will not be eligible.

In short- does he have a current military ID, that says "active" or "retired?" You must show ID to purchase the tix

If you are eligible to stay at Shades of Green, you are eligible to purchase the MYW Stars and Stripes tickets that they sell. Eligibility to stay at SOG differs from eligibility for Disney's Armed Forces Salute special.

For example, my husband now works for the DOD and his DOD Civilian status would qualify him to stay at Shades of Green, and therefore purchase the Stars & Stripes tickets. His DOD job does NOT, however, qualify him to purchase the $169 4-Day Armed Forces Salute Park Hoppers (his Active AF Reserve Job does that).

Aside from that, the only option would be if your wife's dad still has a military ID that granted him commissary/exchange/MWR access. He still would not be eligible for the $169 tickets (you do need to be active or fully retired for that), but he would have access to buy regular MYW tickets at a discount from an MWR office. The discount is not as great as the $169 Armed Forces Salute tickets, but it is something.
