Several years ago we went to Vegas for very little money. The airfare and the hotel were both very inexpensive. My dh and a few of the guys he works with want us to take a "couples" trip and we all thought that vegas sounded fun. I have started looking, but it seems as if the prices have increased dramatically! Is there a way to get do Vegas for a really great price? I think that we went for $500. That included air and hotel for both of us. Can this still be done?

Prices in Vegas have gone up a lot. But there are still tons of bargains if you poke around. If you are willing to go mid-week, there are always bargains. And even weekends aren't so bad if you are willing to go at off times.

But flight prices are up across the board. That's not a Vegas thing, but a nationwide thing. Only a few places left with super-cheap fares to Vegas (mostly California). If you are coming from elsewhere, <$500 for 2 r/t tickets + hotel is going to be hard.

Midweek won't be a problem for us. They are firemen so we are just finding a 4 day (days off in a row) and going then. I am looking at May 27th - 30th.

We were kind of planning on splurging on the hotel this time, so that hasn't been nearly the shock that the airfare has been! I swear that they practically paid us to fly to Vegas the last time I went! We're flying out of Kansas City and so far I haven't found any deals at all.

I think that our best bet seems to be going through a Orbitz or Expedia. The flight times won't end up being the best, but that is the only place I am finding anything even remotely reasonable.

You're thinking of going Memorial Day weekend. Prices are going to be higher no matter what. Both for airfare and hotels. You need to think more of an off time.

You also need to look at the regular hotels and not the "casino and resorts" if you really want something inexpensive. And off the strip.

I am an airhead! I hadn't even thought of that. Our next option is June 5th - 8th. Maybe that will be better. I am assuming that Memorial Day weekend would be crazy crowded too. Not that it will matter in Vegas so much. I am just thinking that it may make getting a table at restaurants for 8 people a little difficult. Thanks.

I'm not sure where you live, but I found Chigaco to Las Vegas at the Luxor for the dates in June for $275 pp on www.vegas.com. I usually find better deals there than either expedia or orbitz.

Does Southwest fly out of KC? If so, they run deals on their vacation packages from time to time. You have to go to SW's website; they won't show up anywhere else.

Thanks, I'll start looking there. We are south of Kansas City, MO so Chicago is about a 12 hour drive for us.

Have you stayed at the Luxor? Is that a hotel you recomend? There are a lot of knew places since we were there last.

I am going to Vegas in two weeks. We go at least once a year. I got one of those crazy airfares to come up ffrom Spirit Airlines and my DH and I are flying for $271 for both of us - Detroit to Las Vegas non-stop. I just couldn't pass it up when I saw it.

I like to book my hotel and airfare separately, so I never use a travel agent, or Expedia, etc. The first thing to do is go into all the hotel websites and register for e-mail promotions. If you are going in early June, you may be able to find some very good deals. The weather will be brutally hot and it can be a great time to find a bargain.

I would stay away from Memorial Day weekend - expensive and crowded.

I recommend staying center strip. For example, Flamingo, Paris, Caesar's Palace, Bellagio, Mirage, Aladdin and Treasure Island would all be good choices, depending on your budget. I have never stayed at the Luxor, but it wouldn't be my first choice. I don't care for the theming or the location.

If you want a nice pool, Flamingo, Mirage, Bellagio and Caesar's are good choices.

If you have any questions, I will try to answer.

It can be cheap, but not April 20-22!!! DH is hosting a bachelor party, and it's costing an arm and a leg! I pride myself on being a betty bargain that is able to find travel deals, but they're getting hosed, as far as I'm concerned.

Flight from MEM-LAS is $411, two nights at the Flamingo $340, and them being guys, they're only staying two to a room. Throw in his portion of covering the bachelors' trip, and he's spending $800 just on travel, not to mention food, taxis, etc.

Oh, well. He doesn't drink anyway, and at least now I know he won't have any money to blow on gambling or strippers. :rotfl:

Check his sock drawer, that is where I keep my stripper money.

The National Association of Broadcasters is having its convention in Las Vegas from April 14 - 19th. Your DH's dates are the weekend following. That's probably why it's so expensive. This convention draws about 125,000 people!!!!!

GF and I are also trying to do Vegas cheap for a few days in Spring/Summer--probably early May. We're meeting her parents there for a few days.

Anyone have any general tips about what not to miss and where to eat?

This is also April vacation week for New England.

We are going from March 4th - 7th from MSP. Staying at the Mirage. Our cost for the package was $500 per person. Airfare just isn't as cheap as it used to be especially from MSP.

Thanks everyone! I haven't checked the Dis in a couple of days and I was really excited to get on and find all of these great tips! I'll be checking into these when I get home from valentines parties today!
