I am working on a large family trip to celebrate my parent’s 50th Wedding anniversary. We are doing the Fantasy followed by some time in WDW afterwards.

My parents will be staying for a few days after the cruise, but I will be staying for a full week.

So my question is, can I book a 2BR lock off for the first few days (where my immeduate family is in the 1BR portion and my parents are in the lockoff)... then downgrade to a 1BR (essentially losing the lock off studio) without my needing to change rooms?

It's happened, but there is no guarantee. You need to request it and then hope for the best.

You can have it noted on the reservation and then check with the front desk at arrival. There is no guarantee, but if possible they will keep you in the same room. If they can, you will need to get new keys on the day of the change from the 2-bed to the 1-bed.

Wow! That was fast!

Love the DISboards. U guys r the best!

Or you could book a 1 bedroom and a studio and get member services to put traveling together on the reservation

That would be more points.

I think you'd have best luck discussing it with the front desk both on your check-in day and again early in the morning of the day that you change. Get down there before they've had a chance to issue a key to your 1 bedroom to someone else.

You have received good info. We were able to do it a couple of years ago at OKW.

We have done that on a number of occasions at OKW. It is a LOT easier to do it starting with the 2BR than adding the studio to make the 2BR - but we've always been able to get it done with either configuration. Just be sure to reserve it as a lock-off 2BR from the start.

I remind them at arrival what we are doing and repeat the request to stay in the same 1BR villa for entire stay. I also go down to the front desk the morning of the change and "remind" them what we are wanting to do.

I'm sure you'll be fine. This is a pretty simple request to meet and even saves the resort some hassle.

Good luck! :)

I've also done it a number of times. You will likely have to check in again on the change day but with the new key system, even that isn't an absolute. I haven't seen anyone who's posted they tried this after the new system has gone into effect.

I'd put it as a request on both reservations (1BR & 2 BR), again at checkin and again on the change day.

We have done it at OKW starting with a one bedroom and adding the studio portion to make it a two bedroom lockoff. You just have to make sure you are blocked into the same one bedroom portion for the entire time. Have it on your reservation and check when you arrive. We booked a one bedroom for the first part of the stay and a two bedroom lockoff for the second part of the stay.

All the studios & 1 bedrooms at OKW are lockoffs so you have a good chance. BWV has many dedicated studios & 1 bedrooms that don't connect, which can make it more difficult.
