Can they cancel your ADR if you have duplicates?

I'll try to be brief...

I was calling to book a time for Pirate's League and while discussing time slots the CM pointed out I had multiple dining reservations for duplicate restaurants on one of my trip dates (10/07) and asked if I was aware. Yes I said, due to the unknown ROL goings-on there is a day on my itinerary that is still up in the air until more info is released. So admittedly yes, I had made reservations to fit both of the scenarios and would cancel the ones that ended up not fitting in my final plan. She stated that "when the free dining promotion is announced...soon...if they see you have multiple reservations you run the risk of them canceling everything you have...it's a popular promotion so they'll see you have multiple reservations and just cancel everything."

Is this really a thing that happens? I just about had a heart attack to think that all of my carefully plotted ADR plans would/could be wiped out by a single click.

They don't overlap though, that's where I was confused. I'm considering splitting Epcot and AK one day and was hoping to hold out and see what happens with AK at night. So I have two ADR in Epcot for breakfast & late lunch and then the same two in Epcot for lunch and dinner. But the times are 8:05, 11:00, 2:00 and 7:30 so I didn't see them as overlapping.

No. Even if they overlap, they will not cancel your reservations.

The Website will not allow me to book overlapping ADR's. That is a change from years prior. The problem is that people double and triple book ADR's so that they can be flexible on their schedule. As too many people do that it shuts out others from making ADR's. I'm in the same situation with ROL for October. We do not know what nights AK will be open late. That will change everything. Not sure what the solution is.

What does Disney consider overlapping? 3 hours between or what?

It used to not allow it for me, either. But, last night it allowed it for some reason. In times past, when one attempted to make a reservation on top of another one at the same time, it would force you to either keep your original reservation, or cancel it before making the new one at the same time. Late last night, the wife and I decided on a change, and I made it through the app before going to bed. Didn't prompt me to "keep" or "cancel" our previous reservation, which I though was odd, but I was already in bed and wasn't going to get up to check on the computer. When I got up this morning, I checked and sure enough, two breakfasts at the exact same time for two different restaurants. I immediately canceled the one we no longer wanted so as not to hoard reservations, but it did let me make two different reservations for the same exact time.
