Can someone tell me about the DL Cats?

I keep hearing about the DL cats. Can someone tell me about them?

there are a bunch of feral (some adopted) cats that live on site. they were found there one day many years ago and little was done to remove them since they figured the cats would help control the population of the less family friendly rodent persuasion.

There are wild cats living in Disneyland and California Adventure. I do not know Disney's official policy, however some say they are allowed to stay because they help with pest control. Back in the 80s I worked at the Tiki Room. Back then there was a war canoe over the entrance. Once as I was greeting guests entering the Tki Room Patio, kittens began to fall from the sky. It seems a mother cat had her litter up in the war canoe!

I've been to DL many times and the first time I saw a cat was last October at the Hungry Bear Restaurant. I was amazed. I don't particularly like them and I am allergic to them. I had no idea that cats were in DL. Now that I've read more about them, I'll probably notice them more.

according to the CM we spoke to at Circle D during the Backstage Magic tour, Disney does tag, neuter/spay and even feeds them. when they've had guests dump kittens off at the resort, they have rescued them and adopted them out before they had a chance to become feral.

Hey Brad! We saw your tour going through the parks over the weekend. I saw you all coming down from your tour of the Dream Suite, and wanted to yell "HI BRADK!" but was too embarrassed. Are you writing a trip report? I'm anxious to see all your photos and read about the details of the tour.

oh. took me a second there. we didn't go into the dream suite, but we did do a group photo in the staircase (although i wasn't in any of the group photos).

i do have a blog, I'll PM you the link. I may repost the whole thing as a DL trip report when i'm done (right now, I'm up to the part where we go to Disney Studios).

I love seeing the kitties. They have some really pretty ones there. I've also seen mice, the not so family friendly ones. LOL The mice seem to really like it over by Peter Pan, the cats really seem to like it over by Hungry Bear.

I would rather see cats then mice ( well except one that is ) anyday.... even though i never noticed the cats. I totally understand them having the cats in there to try to help with the mice, i mean think about how much popcorn and other random junk is left everywhere!!! And i doubt the cats really bother anyone, cause even if your allergic you hardly hear about then coming out when the crowds are there!

There's a kitty who hangs out at Whitewater Snacks in the GCH, I hear, though we didn't see her while we were there (believe me, my DDs looked!). The CM there told me a little about her, but said that she had not been around so much since they were doing construction in the area outside there. She said people would buy tuna sandwiches just so they could take the tuna out to give the kitty!

LOL no, but my oldest DD and her DBF have a black and white tuxedo named Figaro. She's a sweetie!

This is great! The first time I heard they were doing this. Does anyone know if they need/take donations to take care of them all? I know it can get to be pretty expensive with vet bills and all!
