Can someone recommend a hair straightener?

My daughter wants a hair straightener. Has only mildly wavy shoulder length hair, but likes the "look" after it's been straightened. I'm looking to spend no more than $50, so I will not be buying a CHI! Thanks!

I use Conair and love it. I got it at Target and it works great.

BaByliss BABP2559 Professional Porcelain Ceramic 2 1/2 inch Flat Iron on Amazon for $30.00 (regular $90.)

I have a BaByliss, not sure if it this particular one but looks pretty much the same, I love it. There are other narrower BaByliss.

I think I might order me one or ask Santa for it. Always nice to have a spare.

I'll second that. My favorite is a Conair that is a straightener/large barrel curling iron combo. It has multiple heat settings and turns itself off after so many minutes. Works better than the CHI my stylist uses. The only warning is that because it's a curling iron/straightener combo, the whole barrel gets hot... I like that because it allows me to get close to the roots, but it does take some getting used to!!

I use a Remington wet-2-dry straightening iron. Ceramic + ions. Does great! I think it was $24 at Walmart.

My wife asked me for a "good one" for Christmas. I told her I would need a make and model number.... How the heck would I know what a "good one" is? I'm a guy, and I shave my head bald..... :rotfl:

I got a Chi from Kohls for $53. A few weeks ago for their 2 days sale, they had the Chi for 89.99, then I had 30% off and then cashed in my $10 Kohls cash.

My 3 teenage daughters use this on their thick (and in one case curly) hair and they love it. Works great.

My daughter uses a wide Remington one. Works well. I don't remember the model, but she saw it at Target this week for $30 on an endcap of an aisle.

OP- all of these are really good suggestions but it's also worth going to your local hair salon (freestanding one or somewhere like JC Penny's) and asking them what they think.

Good luck!

I had a Remington Wet 2 Straight which I thought worked really well until I got my Chi. Well, the Chi just blows that one away and my hair gets almost no damage. I  my Chi.

To the OP, I would ask at a salon what would work best for your DD's hair type. There are cheaper options out there that are good, but the worst thing you want to do is get one that will damage her hair.

Check your Sally's/similar beauty salon store. I have a generic CHI which is what my hair dresser uses. It looks just like a CHI, but half the cost. Works great and they had some cute patterns your DD might like (mine has stars on it)

It depends on the hair and what you get used to.

Both of my kids have sort of fine, soft hair. My neighbor's kids have very course, thick hair. They have never owned a Chi. They use a $19.99 Andis brand from Target which they love. It is for course, thick hair.

So, our Chi (which is 3 years old) finally broke. So, I ran out and got the cheap one from Target. It takes a full 10 minutes to heat up. My DD said it does just "okay" on her hair. I think once you get a Chi or a similar iron, it is hard to be happy with another? I don't know. I thought for sure that since my neighbor's thick hair was tamed with this cheap one, it would do wonders on my kids' hair. Not so. But my DD wants her hair VERY straight and maybe the neighbor's kids are satisfied with "sorta" straight.

I have tried them all. The cheapo ones all burn out after a few months so in the end you may as well have just bought the good one that lasts longer. My CHI has lasted forever, and nothing else works as good. I have tried them ALL.

I got my DD12 a Bed Head straightener last year for Christmas. If I recall correctly, it was around $35 with a sale discount. I got it from Target on-line. It is a really pretty blue and lights up. I have to say, I'm impressed with how well it works. DD has very wavy and relatively thick hair. It is perfect.
