We just made ressies for Oct. 1 - 8, 2005 and DH is asking, "Just what exactly is this food & wine thing?"

Can someone tell me more about it?

There are a number of special events—wine tastings, chef's demonstrations, etc.—that are held in Epcot, as well as special food and drink booths set up around World Showcase. Most of the booths have samples of the cuisine and wines (or beers) from the countries they represent. The countries are not limited to those that have a standing presence in World Showcase either. I can't recall all that we saw two weeks ago, but in addition to the WS countries there were booths for Australia, Southeast Asia, India, Ireland and others.

We were there on a warm Saturday night, so lines at most booths were VERY long (some looked like they could take 30 minutes or more to get through). Also, prices are appropriately Epcotish ($7+ wines, etc.). We had our two kids (DD10 and DS7) with us, so long lines weren't on our agenda and we didn't get the full impact of the festival. There were many, many people who obviously were getting more than their fair share of the benefit (from the wine part, at least), however.

We went on October 7th and 9th this year, both times in the afternoon. We really had no lines to deal with. Tried escargot from France, shrimp from Australia, soup from Canada, quesidias(sp?) from Mexico, perogies, beef kabobs, beef stoganoff, and many more things. It was great. Each sample ran about $2.50 -$4.00. I do emphasize the word "sample". Hubby also had a few ales from many countries. We thought it was great and a nice way to sample many different foods.

There were a bunch of very detailed threads about the F&WF, if you do a search, you'll find a wealth of information.....

To make a quick synopsis, I'd say it's a celebration of food & wine from around the world, complete with tastings, dinners, seminars, demonstrations, merchandise etc.... There is so much more than just the samplings around World Showcase....

There's alot of info about 2004 F&WF here:

It did seem much more crowded this year than it did in my past trips at this time. I don't know if that was due to folks rescheduling their trips from the hurricanes or if the event has gained alot of popularity......
