Can someone please explain the Photo Pass system?

I've been going to Disney yearly for ages, but NEVER ever paid attention to this. I'm thinking of buying an Annual Pass, so I think this perk is included.

Anyway, can someone please explain (in "kindergarden language" LOL) how/what/where/what this is? Do I just stop and pose when I see one of those photographers? How does that photo know to go to My Experience account, etc.

Yes. They scan your magic band.

There are photographers all around the parks and at character meets. Also many rides have photos that will show up in your account.

You can roll up to any of the PP photographers and they'll pose you against iconic Disney scenery and take your pic. Also, the rides that have cameras will display your ride pic near the exit, you put your MB or park pass against the sensor on the screen showing your pic and it gets attached to your PP account. You then have at least a year to download your pics, we bought our AP in Oct 2015, went again in Oct 2016 and those pics are still on our MDE account.

PhotoPass is the service that Disney provides where photographers will take your photo. Photographers can be found around the parks and at most meet and greets. When a photographer takes your photo, they will either scan your ticket/magicband or a card (with a code that you later assign to you account) that associates those photos with your account so you can view them later.
PhotoPass is free to all park guests (meaning it costs nothing to take the photos)

Memory Maker is the product which allows you to download the photos taken by photopass photographers - this is what is included with an AP.
To download photos, you can visit the site or view them on the MDX app.

With an AP, you will have access to all photos taken within the past year.
