I'm 'adopting' a girl for Christmas and would like to get her some clothes. All I know is that her Girls size 16 pants are too small, so what would the next clothes size, in Juniors, be for her? Or would Misses be better?

She also wear a Girls 14/16 shirt so can I do a Women's small or a medium?

Thanks.

Are you saying children sizes or actual Junior sizes? Junior and misses sizes are very similiar so if she's a 16 in shirts I'd get her a large/x-large. 18 would be the next size up in juniors. =)

But if you're talking about children sizes, I'd get her small shirts.

my daughter wears a 16 girls or a 0,1 in juniors. She is pretty slim though.

She wears a womens small in shirts but a medium at Aeropostle

She's in girl - children sizes now but I've been told that they seem 'tight' on her. She's in fourth grade but obviously rather tall. My friend says they are about the same height, probably 5'1.

Maybe I'm wrong, or just unaware, but if she's a size 16, that's not a junior size, it's a child's size. You wouldn't want to buy misses, you'd simply want to switch to a junior size. You would probably need to go with a 7 or a 9 in juniors, but I'd get the measurements, then check some sizing charts out to be sure.

In shirts, she might get away with a small, but you might have to bump it up to a medium, especially if it's made of a majority of cotton and will be placed in a dryer with a heat setting (lots of shrinking). Again, check the charts before buying.

BTW, I believe junior sized run the odd numbers (with the exception of 0 I believe). 1, 3, 5, etc... Misses run the even sizes.

Oh okay, go with junior sizes then. I'd say a small or maybe medium in shirts.

Not quite sure about the pants though, it depends on where you're planning to shop.

There is no way I can get measurements, just have to go with what I have and do the best I can.

I'll probably just buy some shirts/hoodies and try to find some gently used jeans for her. I have a friend whose daughter is tall and probably has some outgrown clothes. I know her shoe size, so I'll get socks and maybe some underwear, since those sizes tend to be more general.

Thanks for your help. I want to get her some nice things. No child should go without on Christmas.

Size 14 in childrens is the same as size 0 in juniors... this is what a Kohls worder told me. I took 14's over and around the waist they were close to the same size, but the length was much longer in juniors!

My daughter wears 0 and 1 in junior pants... BUT DO NOT get ones that are "Low or Super Low" I made this mistake and boy are they LOW! We took them right back!

As for shirts, if in the junior I would go with a MEDIUM!

Have fun shopping for her!

Go to JcPenney's website. When you click on an article of clothing, in the right hand corner, you can click to see the sizing charts. I had to check junior's sizes and kid's sizes to compare the measurements, but that's how I got the 7/9 figure.

If you go with a hoodie, I'd suggest getting it bigger than needed. Most kids like these a bit big.

Keep in mind, sizing varies GREATLY depending on the manufacturer, too.

A kids size 16 is in no way, shape, or form even comparable to a juniors 7 or 9. Not even close! A kids 16 is more like a 00 or 0 in juniors. I know this because these are the size pants I wear, both in juniors and kids. Sometimes, it pays to be a small adult!

My DD went from children's 14/16 (slims) right to Junior's 00 and 0. She now wears anywhere from a size 1 to a size 3 in pants but still prefers and XS in shirts from places like American Eagle, etc.

My DD is about 5'2", weighs about 95-100 pounds and wears a size 1 in juniors. She could probably fit into a 16 in kids, but they would be way too short.

I just had to buy some nice pants for a school function and JCPenney had a good selection of junior sizes.

So, I would go with a 0 or a 1. A 1 would give her a little growing room.

When our CI daughter was changing over I asked this question. I was told a girl's 14 is a junior's 4 and a girl's 16 is a junior 6. This was at Old Navy.

BTW JC Penney sells 18s. Maybe that is the way to go.

What a kind thing to do.:thumbsup2

My DD wears a size 14 children's and a size 00 in women's. She has tried on a few junior size 3's, but they are still too big for her. For her shirts, she wears either XS or S at American Eagle and Aeropostale. If you got her a shirt, you might want to get a small and if you get a hoodie, then perhaps a medium.

Any chance you could actually take her shopping with you? My DD and most of her friends tell me that looking and trying on is half of the fun. We have SO much fun on our shopping days!

Pants: My DD wears a girls size 14-16 in jeans
She inherited several Juniors size 5short and they fit like a dream.

As for Shirts be careful with Jr. styles as they tend to start adding darts and areas for development.
