Hello :goodvibes. I just went to Aldis for the first time and was confused on what was ok to buy and what to pass on. Please remind me about what is good and what is not.

Thanks!:goodvibes

I like Aldi for milk, eggs, bread. In my area you can get milk for $1.89, eggs for $.79, and bread for as low as 89c, although I usually buy the whole grain fancier bread for $1.79 (reminds me of orowheat)

I browse the fruit and veggie for a good deal but don't expect much. Lately I have gotten 2lb grapes for $1.89.

Chocolates are very good, especially the dark ones. I usually pick up a chocolate bar just 'cuz. Also the snack foods like tortilla chips, jerkey, cookies, dried foods. And the fancy crackers and cheeses. This stuff I don't buy usually, but its all very good quality and I have purchased for parties/special events.

Their stuff is basically house brand, but it is all good quality. Also the quarter for carts is GENIUS!!! I tell you, people in my area are super lazy about putting carts away everywhere else... But not a stray cart to be found at Aldi!!! I wish more stores did that!

Aldi isn't a get everything store. And you can't be snobby about store brands. I'm lucky enough to have one convenient to me, so I don't mind swinging by for a quick milk/egg/bread errand.

I have never had anything bad from Aldi's. I do all my shopping there. The savings is tremendous.

Last week I got a giant watermelon for 3.99, blueberries for 1.29 and yogurt for 39 cents. Oh, and I also got strawberries for 99 cents for a large pack. Everything was really yummy. I buy my potatoe chips for 1.50 and my nachoes for 1.79!

We've been happy with everything too. I haven't tried the meat though. The savings on produce are wonderful, but they obviously have travelled a bit and need to be eaten sooner than stuff I get at Wegmans.

Some of our favorite things: They have cookie butter and their own brand of Nutella. :) Chocolate covered donuts, granola bars and animal crackers are all wonderful.

Milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt, and cereal are all cheaper than anywhere else.
If you do some research you can learn that many of the items are name brands, but sold under their lable.

I wouldn't hesitate to try anything.

Check out the "stuff" also. I purchased a bunch of Barbies at Target for the Angel tree. Then I went to Aldi and was surprised that they were a great deal cheaper there.

If I need a big trip I don't go there but for staples it is wonderful.

The only things I have gotten there that I don't like are their versions of Good Seasons Italian dressing, Oreos, and the frozen jalepeno popper's and buffalo wings. Those items went straight in the trash. Everything else I love!

They have a good return policy if you aren't satisfied which is nice. I personally don't buy their produce or meats but I'll spend about $60 and get a month worth of snacks for the kids. I don't think there is anything wrong with their other foods, I've just never been able to move on from an isolated incident there from 8 years ago lmao. Ruined me.

Cereals are fine. DH actually likes the granola better than name brands. Produce is hit or miss--I never count on getting anything there, but if it looks good, I'll pick it up. Have bought chicken breasts and ground beef--both fine and very cheap. Milk and eggs. Kids love the frozen chicken tenders. Chips are just as good as any others and half the price.

My kids said they didn't like the "Cheerios". So I took the package and put the insert in an empty official "Cheerios" box. No one noticed and they ate the whole thing. :rotfl2:

Now that I think of it we didn't like the Buffalo wings either.

What we buy at Aldi:
Fresh fruit/vegetables (excellent prices)
fresh garlic
Milk
Butter
Eggs
Some frozen/ice cream
Granola Bars
Sour Cream
Chocolate
Snacks

What we don't buy at Aldi
Meat
Canned food

My 'pay it forward' moment is every time I go to Aldi I return the cart to the stall but I leave the quarter in it. A small good will gesture for the next person. :flower3: If someone in the lot takes me cart I tell them to keep the quarter--most resist but I ask them to pay it forward. :wave2:

The only thing we have ever not liked from Aldi's was their version of a crab Rangoon appetizer. I Don't buy fresh meat there because we get beef straight from the farm, but we love their Applewood farms spiral sliced ham, and you cannot beat the price! I also buy frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts there. The "take and bake" pizza is HUGE and better than any other I've had. Best prices around, and the quality is all good, what's not to like! I spend over 1/2 my monthly food budget there, if its on my grocery list and Aldi's has it, I'm buying it.

It's the best store in the world. I do the bulk of my shopping there. The only things I have tried that aren't as good or better than other comparable items are their snack cakes. The only thing I don't usually purchase there is meat. Love it!

We have them all over the uk and they are gaining a good share of the market over here most of their stuff is very good but you will notice they don't carry many brand names. We use them a lot over here.

Love Aldi's!

Some items DH likes even MORE than the brand names, like their fudge striped cookies.

I love Aldi's!! :)

Produce there is kind of hit or miss.. sometimes they have a good selection and it's good.. sometimes there isn't much. Their snacks (chips, crackers, pretzels, candy, etc..) are all fine. Never had a problem with their baking supplies and mixes and I've used their seasonings with no complaint. Their dairy products (milk, sour cream, yogurt, butter, cheese, etc..) and eggs are fine.. no complaints at all! LOVE their hummus and their take n' bake pizzas! Don't like the coffee they sell there. Don't buy the cereal, meat, juice, soda, cleaning or hygiene stuff at all so can't tell you anything there. Their canned goods are okay. Their pasta sauces (love their pestos!!) and dried pastas are fine. Have bought bread there and it was fine. Ice cream was okay. Once I found a GREAT deal on dog bones there but otherwise, don't buy the pet stuff there so no opinion there..

Overall, for the stuff we like, Aldi's is great! I get ALOT of food for not a lot of money and it's all decent quality! I still have to go other places for other things, but I think Aldi's is worth an extra trip to the store!

I buy the Jennio ground turkey, veggie sticks, and sweet potato chips. The Clancy's(I think that is the brand name) veggie straws are the only brand my family will eat.

We just got an Aldi's here and I have been very happy with almost everything I have gotten there. I have not tried any meat, but I do buy bread, milk, produce, chips and snacks and love the take and bake pizzas. The one thing that nobody here likes is the premium orange juice.
I'm going on a shopping run up there today :)
My friend is a brand snob, she wouldn't be caught dead in an Aldi's. I laugh every time she complains about how much she spends at the grocery store ;)

I've shopped at Aldi's for over 30 years. I go a half hour away just to go to one.

I have bought hamburger meat there. I like some of their frozen food entrees. I buy the fruit and vegetables. I will say you have to be watchful, here. Sometimes, it seems it could be fresher. Their dairy products are just fine. I get their cereal. I love how the mom switched the insert with her cheerio box.

I've even bought plants there.

We like their spiral-sliced hams with the glaze packet . . . yum! We also like to get corned beef there, best price we've found. I can't really think of anything we've gotten there that we were unhappy with, actually, but the ham and corned beef are the things that we make a trip to Aldi's to buy rather than getting them elsewhere.

Are you 19 and in college? If so buy everything from there. If you aren't 19 and in college, go to a real grocery store. Your intestines will thank you.
