can someone post the show number if they remember it?? thanks guys !

Try the 8/6/08 show. That is the Poly review and the Lakes issue came up around that time - Pete and Walter were staying at the Poly around mid July. (I only remember this because I found out afterwards that they were staying there while I was at the Grand Floridian and I was sorry I didn't run into them.) :sad2:

THANK YOU for asking that! I am a newbie postcast listener (since November 2008) and it was one of those I thought eventually, I'd hear the reason LOL. I never thought to ask :rotfl:

A little more fuel got added to the lakes fire when after Pete had first made his annoucement about the lake issues, another podcast aired a question directly referring to "another podcast (the DisUnplugged) saying the lakes weren't safe" and scaring his kids, etc....in which the answer to that question was that the lakes really weren't *that* bad...blah, blah, blah...to which, if I remember correctly, Pete replying on the next Dis podcast "that they sure are" (add very colorful remarks here...Pete rant style;) ) and just to remind people, he'd end every podcast with "stay outta the damn lakes!"

The lake outside Contemporary does watersports...should I think twice before signing up? I would hate to wind up with something unfortunate like butthole bacteria from a bit of splashing...

From what little I know about amoebic encephalitis, the amoeba that causes it actually lives in the lake bed. Your chances of catching it are extremely, extremely higher where you can touch the bottom of the lake and silt gets tossed up from footsteps. It generally is not a problem in deeper water such as where one would ski, parasail, etc. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct this.

This is why River Country had to be closed, if memory serves correct.

My wife who doesn't play a doctor on tv but does work in Nuro has a book about this.

I looked for on an online source that has the samething and Wikipedia "Naegleria fowleri propagates in warm, stagnant bodies of freshwater (typically during the summer months), and enters the central nervous system after insufflation of infected water by attaching itself to the olfactory nerve."
If you want more read here.

wikipedia org/wiki/Primary_amoebic_meningoencephalitis

Farther down in the article is "the contaminated water must be deeply insufflated into the sinus cavities for transmission to occur"

This is also mentioned in my wife's text book.

You may remember there was another Disney water park that was closed wikipedia org/wiki/Disney's_River_Country If cloudy with age memory is correct there was open water swimming in this area that was a section of Bay Lake that was closed off for swimming in the water park.

Edit sorry I don't have permissions to post links.
