Can someone explain the San Francisco/Tokyo redo of the Pacific Wharf area?

Is this a change up of restaurants? What's the significance of this hybrid? Any idea when it will be done?

several new restaurants, opening August 31. It will have a meet and greet area as well. Significance? I think just to include a different intellectual property that is pretty popular and has a tie to what the original area was when California Adventure was pretty much absent of Disney and more California focused.

Not exactly new restaurants. 1 restaurant and the margarita hut are getting a name changes, the beer cart is gone and all 3 restaurants plus the margarita hut are getting some new menu additions while current favorites are staying.

Disney Food blog lists 3 restaurants as being new and 2 old.

Rita’s Turbine Blenders (replacing Rita's Baja Blenders and opening with new drink items on July 26, 2023)

(New!) Aunt Cass Café (replacing Pacific Wharf Café and coming soon)

(New!) Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería (opening soon and mobile order available)

Cocina Cucamonga and Lucky Fortune Cookery will have new menus.

Seems like semantics to me. 2 restaurants are the same with new menus. One all new restaurant and 2 are changing names and menus -that seems like enough to qualify as new restaurants to me, but obviously you disagree.

What is it? Another opportunity to bury a vestige of the mistakes of 2001. I’m excited for it because my kids will love it but it’s not exactly an important new land, as it lacks rides and shows. It will have Big Hero 6 meet and greets though.

All in all, for parents and kids alike. Would you say this is real positive refresher of that area?

Thanks for the replies... I guess now that I think back I remember the reference to Big Hero 6...

I was definitely a patron of the beer cart, hopefully something like that will still be there...
Maybe the asian/fusion offerings will get a boost??

I'll check back in Sept/Oct to see how things are!

I'm not as excited about the update. I really liked the Mexican influence theming in that area with the background music and performers they would sometimes have at Christmas. They probably won't have the Mariachi bands in a San Fran/Tokyo themed area, so I wonder what kind of live entertainment will go in there (or maybe they'll just scrap that?). Maybe once I see it in person I'll like it better.

I agree. Atmosphere wise, this area was great. It didn't need a re skin. It was a very enjoyable place to have a meal and relax.

I couldn't care less about the Big Hero 6 theme. It was a good movie, but I never wanted to feel like I was in it.

However, I am pretty pleased with the new menu items that have been announced. They didn't take anything away and just added several new options, and I'm always down with that!

I like the look of the new area even though I'm not a Big Hero 6 fan, I do like Baymax.
Hoping that this goes over well and we can see a complete re-theme or SOMETHING done to the "backlot" area next.

Yes. The area before was IMO poorly themed. It was DCA 2001. I know everyone on the other big Disney message board is mad because it’s IP based but frankly I think it’s a great change.

I LOVE BH6 so I am happy to see anything related to it. As long as the sourdough bread isn't going anywhere, then I am all good with it.

I haven't seen anything written about Ghiradelli. Is it staying as is?
