Can someone explain the appeal of Kathy Griffin?

ITA. I remember Bill Cosby once saying the lazy comedians resort to the nasty, shock type stuff because they don't want to put the effort into making actual jokes. I think this is true.
I think so too.

Kathy Griffin - don't enjoy her variety of "comedy" at all.

Love Kathy. Love Lisa too. And Ellen - she's in a class all her own. When she used to do stand up no one could touch her.

Hoping Kathy makes it to Montclair thsi year!

I haven't seen Kathy Griffin in anything lately - I mean a few years ago I did watch D List - I think she's funny. I am not easily offended and the beauty of our country is if you don't care for a particular flavor of entertainment - change the channel, or don't attend the show - no harm no foul in my book. To each their own. I can't imagine having such an emotional investment in any entertainer/performer to use words such as hate, vile etc. Some I care for, some I don't - how boring would it be if we were all the same?

I like her. I think she's hilarious. She did some schtick on a celebrity that my DH's company had business dealings with, and she was so on target. I think that's when I really started liking her. She does make me cringe sometimes with some of her comments and bad language, but hey...in general, I think she's a riot. My favorite line? "I talk about people behind their backs; it's called 'manners'". Seems to fit some of these boards. Anyway...I don't watch the D-List show or her specials unless I happen to come across them and I'm in the mood. But I've already got a collection of too many shows that I commit to.

Can't stand Sarah Silverman. Lisa Lampanelli? Never heard of her, and don't recognize her pictures.

Love Ellen, when I catch her show, which isn't often.

We saw Jimmy Fallon a couple of months ago, and he used a lot of foul language. But, he wasn't also funny (IMHO). I don't think foul language negates humor...I just think it doesn't MAKE humor. And the funniest performance of any comedian I ever saw was Jay Leno (much funnier than his talk show monologues), and he was very skimpy with foul language, and hilarious.

I don't mind some raunchy humor IF it's funny. I don't find Kathy Griffin remotely funny.

I'm probably showing my age but I miss Elayne Boosler and Rita Rudner. Now those ladies were funny. Ellen is another favorite and luckily still around.

Yeah, she can be uncomfortably harsh. But she's also very self-deprecating. That works for me.

UGH...she has ruined CNN New Year's Eve coverage for me two years in a row. It was so much better when Anderson Cooper was by himself, or with other CNN correspondents. Not only do I find her wildly inappropriate for CNN, but her jokes are just not funny. I'm not an old fuddy duddy either. Here's hoping after this year's intentional swearing on live TV that CNN decides NOT to invite her back next Dec.

Well, now, this thread has opened my mind about Kathy. The clip from "Kate is Enough" is amusing! So maybe I'll grow to like her more.:happytv:

I heart Kathy Griffin! She's beyond hilarious in my book. Love how she tells it like she sees it. :rotfl2:

Then she went on to say he was stealing because he was using her ATM card without asking her. I just thought it was an odd thing to trash your DH on national TV about. Sure there maybe more to the story, but that was the only excuse she kept giving was that he used her ATM card without permission. OK, you thought it was wrong and divorced him over it, but I thought it was also wrong to trash him on national TV for something most couples do in everyday life.

Actually he stole in excess of 40K from her. Probably a lot different than "most couples", KWIM?

Is she the comedian who used to sometimes show up on Whose Line Is It Anyway? If so, she was very quick on that show and held her own against the regulars. Haven't watched any of her more recent acts.

If she could hold her own on that show, "Whose Line is it Anyway" then I am impressed. That show was nothing short of brilliant the likes of which we have not seen again.

I think she is pretty funny.

She sees through the political correctness of some people and call them on it.

There is a lot of scarcasm in her humor which I find refreshing, she is not afarid to make fun of the so called "super-stars" that are sometimes very full of themselves.

watching her show also shows just how hard it is to be a stand-up comic.

..and her mom and dad (RIP) with the boxes of wine!
