Can someone explain the appeal of Kathy Griffin?

She's not my favorite comedienne but I do find her funny at times. I'm 46 y/o female by the way. Now, the one that was WAY over the top for me that I saw on HBO one night was Lisa Lamperelli. Ever watched her? Whew.

50, married female and I use to like her, but after the divorce, I lost respect for her. I use to watch her show and saw how she treated her DH. Then she divorced him because she said he was stealing from her. Then she went on to say he was stealing because he was using her ATM card without asking her. I just thought it was an odd thing to trash your DH on national TV about. Sure there maybe more to the story, but that was the only excuse she kept giving was that he used her ATM card without permission. OK, you thought it was wrong and divorced him over it, but I thought it was also wrong to trash him on national TV for something most couples do in everyday life.

Lisa Lamperelli, WOW, what a piece of work. She is someone I wouldn't even go see if I had free tickets!

Makes Kathy Griffin look like a saint.

I saw Dave Attell a few months ago, since we are talking about raunchy comics.:lmao:

I think she can be funny at times, but a lot of times she is just mean. I know people say celebrities are fair game, but I don't think it's fair to criticize every aspect of someone's appearance, mannerisms and life just because their job is acting in movies. I remember one episode of the show when the husband was still around and Kathy was crying because Jay Leno compared her to the friend who is at the bar with the hot girl. Kathy said that meant she was ugly and Jay really hurt her feelings. Well, how do you think the people you make comments about feel?

I didn't know she had any appeal. I don't know anyone who can stand her:confused3 Well maybe Joy Behart. They are the same kind of person

I think she's funny.............only watch her occasionally.

Reason? I have no clue who some of these 20 something celebrities she nmakes fun of even are????
:confused3:lmao:

He stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from her. I don't think that's chump change.

Love Kathy Griffin. I think she's hilarious. I love it when she makes fun of 'hot mess' celebrities. Her book was also hilarious.

I think she says what a portion of the population thinks about certain things; she is INCREDIBLY hard working, and I think she is HI-larious! Even DH thinks she is funny!

Now Sarah Silverman - blech.

I loved her skit mocking Kate Gosselin...had me laughing out loud. :lmao:

OK, Sarah Silverman is worse that Lamperelli. Has anyone seen her "Jesus is Magic"? Now that is some pretty hardcore stuff.:lmao:

First of all, the words "appeal" and "Kathy Griffin" don't belong in the same sentence!

I cannot stand Kathy Griffin. I love comedians.......Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, for example (a couple of whom can be very vulgar at times but still hysterically funny).

Kathy Griffin, in my opinion, tries way too hard, but she is not naturally funny. I'll see her on something, and I find myself talking to the TV going, "That's not funny" after every 'joke' she delivers.

I think most of her 'comedy' is more about shock value.

Her schtick is based on the same routine that many male comendians have and use to great popularity. Because she's a woman, she can either come off as being more repulsive (to those who are uncomfortable with women taking very male roles) or she can just appear very self assured and assertive. Sarah Silverman and Margaret Cho, same sort of thing.

That being said, humor is subjective. She's not one of my favorites, but at least I find her vaguely amusing. Now Ellen, I don't get at all.

We (wife and I) love Kathy. We watch her specials and her Life on the D-list show. She is one of the few female comedians that can make me laugh.

I like how she rips on the A-list Celebs.

ITA. I remember Bill Cosby once saying the lazy comedians resort to the nasty, shock type stuff because they don't want to put the effort into making actual jokes. I think this is true.
