Can see extended banked points as Riviera points online, but not able to book with them online unless I use the work around provided by Sandi

For my extended 2018 banked points that expire at the end of Nov 2020, I can now see them online as Riviera points.

I have tried for the last few days to book online specifying to use the "Riviera" points first. I get all the way to the last page (the Review your booking page where you have to check the box to accept the terms and conditions), but when check that box and click "Book this room", I get the Dwarfs We're working on it page rather than the congratulations your vacation is confirmed page.

However, if I specify to use our regular points first, and the reservation does not require any Riviera points the reservation goes through, and I get the congratulations your room is confirmed. I then can call MS to have the points reallocated to Riviera points. So from my experience, even though the Riviera points show up online, you cannot book online using those points.

ETA: See @Sandisw reply below and my confirmation in reply to her post for a work around. Note: after confirming her work around I changed the title of this thread

I think this has to do with the rules of how points are pulled. Have you tried to check both contracts?

That is how I got it to work with some transferred points I had in my account.

I checked all with the transferred contract checked as 3rd. It pulled them after it pulled banked and borrowed from the other contracts And the transferred to finish up the trip.

It did not work if I tried to put the transferred points contract as first.

@Sandisw you are brilliant. Since it blew up when I listed the extended Riviera points first, and since when I listed my regular points first I had enough regular points to cover the full points cost I did not think of also checking the Riviera points to use second since they would not be needed. However, you were absolutely correct. When I checked to use the regular points first, which were all the points I would need, but also checked to use the Riviera points second, after the confirmation it actually took the Riviera points and did not use any of the regular points .
I will post an edited to add to my original post.

Thanks for the compliment! Just something I figured out while reallocating when I had issues!

Glad it worked out for you!

I had a similar problem when I tried to borrow some points to book a reservation in January. It was under the 50% limit, but every time I would get the dwarfs. I had another contract that had current use year available and it went through no problem. They are different use years, so Sandi’s work around would not have worked for me.

I ended up having to call member services and the cast member saw the issue and apparently had to go get a manager to get it to go through. It took about 10 minutes for the cast member to get it booked, so it was not a simple fix. Before he went to get his manager he said he knew what the issue was, so it must be a common issue that’s occurring now. I could have misheard, but I believe he said it had something to do with resale contracts and borrowing from future years.
