Yes, you can always add points to your membership whether they were purchased on the resale market or direct from Disney.
It is easier to manage your points if you buy add-on points to keep the use year the same. If you do, Disney will combine the new points into your current membership. If you purchase a different use year, Disney will issue you a second membership.

This site has a list of the current prices and incentives if buying directly from Disney. The minimum purchase for an add-on directly from Disney is 25 points. Rumor has it that some of the current incentives listed will be ending July 2nd.Do you know how much per point it costs to add points?
Thanks a lot for your explanation! I have one doubt, if I have a BWV with october UY, and I want to buy directly from Disney some (160) AKV points, can I ask Disney to give me an october use year? You don't technically add points to an existing contract. You purchase an additional contract, going through all the same steps for a closing. Once you're a member, you can always purchase an add-on contract, either through Disney or on resale. Purchasing from Disney as an existing member vice a new member, the only real difference is there's a lower minimum number of points for the purchase. The incentives can also sometimes be different.
If you purchase from Disney, they will always match the use year of your existing contract. If you buy resale, you need to pick the use year that works for you. If you pick the same use year, it will go under your existing member number. If you pick a different use year, they'll create a new member number. In that case, the two contracts are considered separate, and you can't mix the points between them. You can use your one annual transfer, though, to transfer points from one to the other.

You won't have to ask for it. Because you already have a contract with an October use year, every new contract you buy directrly from Disney, regardless of the resort, will automatically have an October use year. Thanks a lot for your explanation! You can ask and as noted, that will be their default. Since you're at or above the minimum for a new purchase, you could also get a different UY if you wanted. However, they can't give you what they don't have so if they ended up not having Oct points, you would have to either not buy that resort at that time or get a different UY.Thanks a lot for your explanation! Some have been able to buy the minimum total from Disney but break it up the way you did. You just need to be at the combined total that qualifies for a first retail purchase, normally 160 for most situations. This is what I did since I wanted multiple small contracts that were all under Disney's minimum at the time (which was 160). I bought 25 Resale OKW points, then when VGC opened did 4 add ons from Disney, totaling 225 (60, 65, 50 & 50). I then sold my OKW points. All my points are now direct from Disney and have the same use year.
When you buy direct once owning via resale and they combine the memberships of the same use year, do you then receive all the rights and privileges for using points at resorts, DCL, Adventures, etc?
And if so, would that benefit be for the whole amount or just the additional points?
Very curious how folks have worked this.
If the resale was purchased prior to 03/21/11 it would have unrestricted uses on both the resale points and any direct purchase points you added to that holding.
Any resale points purchased after 03/21/11 will be restricted in use, regardless to other factors.

Thanks. So DVC must keep track of which membership points originate from? And which memberships points are drawn from?
Just thinking of the complications of banking points from one year that could be a mix of both original resale points and newly purchased direct points.
P.s. - new to DVC. Closed on resale but waiting for number and membership package. Thanks for the help.
