I just wanted to verify if we can do this. My son is in the AF in Panama City. He is coming to Disney to see us for just 4 nights and 3 days. He has his own Military Salute Ticket. We are at the Pop Century with the Free Dining Package. Can we just add him to our room and pay a nightly fee?

if you add him per Disney rules all occupants should have the same ticket-dining package. I had mu cousing staying 2 nights with me, no one ever question him.
Edited to add that my cousin not being in the reservations resulted in us not taking advantage of extra magic hours on those days.

You should add him before you arrive only if you want him to share the same package (which means same tickets and dining plan for the full stay, not just the days he's there.)

You may be able to add him at the front desk after you arrive and he would not be subject to the package requirements then. but that may not help him if he needs to use Disney's Magical Express from the airport, they won't allow him to use it if he's not registered on the room. It sounds like he may be driving, so if he does he wouldn't need DME, but there'd be a charge for parking the car at the resort if he's on the overnight reservation.

If you add him now he must have the same package. But you can add him just for the nights he will be with you at checkin. Not before

One thing that hasn't been mentioned, occupancy. You don't mention how many are in your room now. You can't add a 5th to the room at Pop. Just to make sure that's mentioned. If you have less than 4, yeah, he can join you.

It's just the 3 of us. He would be the 4th person. I will add him when we get there. He just needs to stay with us. He has his park ticket, and we are paying for his food!

Have done that many times!

Yes, you can just add him. My daughter has done this several times. I just went to the front desk and told them she was coming for a few days, and I wanted to notify them. You have to give them her name so they know to let her in at the gate (oops Him, I mean). Otherwise, they will not let anyone in who is not listed. They can charge you for those days. However, the CM's I informed of this said they would put her down as a "day guest" and she would not be charged. So, never had any charges done. As far as tickets/adr's, we just added her name to our my magic reservations as a guest, and made her reservations the same as ours. No problem.
I think Disney likes to be informed of extra guests and are grateful when you inform them. I imagine some people just don't do that thinking they won't get charged. We found it to be the other way. We have never had a problem with this, just inform the desk of his name and when he is coming. I would add that he is active military too. Have a great time with him:)

I called about this, too. I was told I could add a friend who was coming for a few nights of my stay as a "day guest" after I arrived, however my friend:
- would not get a magic band
- couldn't set up Disney Magical Express in advance until I was at the resort and added her
- could not go to Extra Magic Hours
- would be charged an additional charge per night since we already had 2 adults in the room

He can just say he’s visiting them, show ID, and he’ll get in just fine. She doesn’t need to bother with giving them his name *so he can get in the gate*. Disney allows people to visit resorts.

That’s a phone answer. When I added my aunt the day of she would have gotten in for emh if it had been a park visit. If staying outside of Dvc, yes there’s an extra adult fee beyond 2 adults. And the dme part of correct AND no biggie as long as you’re there enough before the dme need. My aunt got a card. None of us NEED a mb. Cards work the same (apart from photopass).

Once they are added they can go to Extra Magic Hours, but the rest of it is true.

Seems to be a lot of confusion around registering as a "day guest" which technically is a guest who is there for the day and doesn't spend the night. I wonder if Disney's system has been altered to show all additional guests off package as day guests. In that case I don't know if they'd get to attend EMH or not.

Thanks for the info! We will let them know when we arrive. He is driving so I have to register his car so he can park at the resort. I will let them know he is active military AND a Florida resident. Maybe they can give us a break on the cost. If not...it's ok...it's DISNEY!!!

Didn't know that. We were told to inform them so he was "on a list" and would be let in to the resort.??? It wouldn't hurt to do it anyway, just in case, but we always did.
