Can my 10 year old bring a carryon and a small backpack as his personal item?

I know adults are allowed a carry on and personal item but not sure about kids. Is a backpack considered a personal item if it fits under seat?

Sure! Anyone who has purchased a seat can bring on a carry-on and a personal item. As long as his backpack fits underneath the seat he is all set.:)

No problem. The cost for the 10YO's seat was the same and he gets the same "benefits".

The only person who would not get a carryon and personal item allowance is a lapbaby.

I always say that when my family flies with Southwest, we could bring our whole house if we wanted to - between me DH, and 3 DDs, we can bring 10 pieces of checked luggage and 5 carry ons! Although the most we've ever brought is 3 checked and 1 carry on besides the kid's backpacks.

As said numerous times before me he gets a backpack and carry on.

I will be taking small kids and all will have their own back pack and carry on. Not only does it save money it saves me from carrying everything. We are flying from Oregon so 6 hours in the air so they are taking stuff to do.
