Can I waitlist to replace part of an existing reservation?

We are booked in an AKL studio 1/2-1/9. Is it possible to waitlist another resort for part of that stay without losing the entire reservation? I have used nearly all our points so if I opt not to replace an existing reservation it would borrow points against the next year. If I call MS, could they split my existing reservation in two?

You cannot set up a waitlist to replace only part of an existing reservation. It’s all or nothing.

MS cannot split a reservation into 2 separate ones. You would have to cancel the part you wish to set up a waitlist for and then hope to be able to re-book it before anyone else or someone’s waitlist grabs it.

Actually, you can certainly set it up to replace part of the reservation as long as it is consecutive at the beginning or end of the one you have booked. For example, if you wanted to do a split stay for the first few nights, then you set it up to replace, just those nights. I have done it before. I don't think it can be done that way on your own on the website, but if you call, they will set it up for you so that you don't lose the entire reservation. They do not need to split the reservation ahead of time to do this. To do this type of modification on the website, I believe it would have had to be booked in two different reservations, but by MS should be able to take care of it for you!

You can set it up to replace part. The concern is that because the waitlist is finalized by a person they do not always get it quite right. The potential could exist for them to replace the entire reservation with the shortened waitlist. However some people have reported success in having it finalized correctly to replace part of a reservation.

That is enough to scare me. It's a very busy week and I don't want to risk losing the rest of my reservation. I'll probably stick with what I have.
