Can I use luggage delivery flying in from Toronto?

Hi all.

I hope that someone might be able to assist.

We are scheduled to take DME when we arrive in Orlando in a few weeks. We were originally going to fly from Toronto via Newark and as such, I provided DME with my connecting flight info only. They sent us luggage tags with our package last month.

We've recently had a flight change and are now flying from Toronto's Pearson airport direct to MCO. So.... can we still use the luggage tags and have the bags "magically" transported to our room (my hubby is really big on doing this)?

When I called to update DME on the change, the agent I spoke with said we can't use them any longer because we will have to clear customs.... but we clear customs in Toronto before we board our flight and as such, shouldn't we be able to use the luggage delivery service?

Thought I would check here to see if anyone with first hand experience could clarify before I tried calling DME back (maybe a different agent will have different advice!)

The agent didn't understand that you clear customs before leaving Canada, not at MCO. You should be fine.

You will be fine - I've used it before without a problem. As the PP pointed out, we pre-clear US customs and immigration in Toronto, so our flights arrive in the domestic terminal/domestic gates.

You will now, however, be able to use BAGS/RAC coming home. You can still take the DME to the airport, but will have to bring your luggage with you. This is the case, even if you are connecting in EWR (unless you are stopping there and your luggage is not checked through - for example, if you were spending time in NYC on your way home).

ETA - the above assumes you are not on one of the few airlines (charter airlines, in my experience) that do not pre-clear in Toronto.

Even if you clear or reclear customs when arriving in Orlando you can still have bags delivered to your room by Magical Express.

Provided you can do it by 10 PM, simply put the bags on the other conveyor belt as you leave the customs station.
