Can I use Disney Gift Cards at all the restaurants?

I am wondering if there are any restaurants in DL and DCA that don't take Disney gift cards? I know there are some and maybe most in DTD that don't. Also, does any one know what restaurants will take the Disney Chase Rewards redemption card? I have some money here also and am trying to plan out my visit :)

Not all places, though most. I recently tried to use Disney gift cards and Chase rewards points at Ghiradelli Chocolate and Soda Fountain and they said that I couldn't. I'm sorry, I don't have a comprehensive list as to where it's ok and where it's not. I'm afraid you'll just have to ask and be prepared for a "no".

Only food service place inside the parks that do NOT take gift cards is Ghiradelli as mentioned above. They are accepted everywhere else inside the parks and all the DLR hotel restaurants that take credit cards. There are a few carts that are cash only but quite a few that will accept the cards for payment.

I do not think there are any Disney owned restaurants in DTD that will accept gift cards. Many will give an AP discount, but cash or credit card are required for payments.

The only place I haven't been able to use a gift card was an ice cream cart in DCA a couple years ago. Also, just in case you're staying on site, anything you charge to the room can then be paid off with gift cards.

Ohhhh that's a great idea--we are staying on-site for most of our trip :). thank you.

I think CLarabelle's in DCA won't accept gift cards, and also Ghiradelli, Gibson Girl, the Crystal Art stores.

It works great! We usually hit the desk once a day to pay the room charges. If you haven't paid for the room in advance and booked through disney you can also pay the hotel cost with disney resort gift cards. (We like to pay off daily as it's a little unnerving keeping hold of that much in gift cards.)

We might try doing this on our trip! Do you just give them your room key card? Are there any places (other then cash only) in the parks that won't let you charge it to your room? Also, how much/often do you have to pay it down before they charge it to your cc- we'd rather not do that if we are pre- buying gc's. Thanks and sorry to hijack the thread!

I thought I used a gift card at Clarabelle's (DCA) and Gibson Girl in the past. These are two of the places that do not have an AP discount, so it's interesting to know that they've stopped accepting gift cards...I wonder why?

To charge to your room, you just need your room key and ID...and charging privileges activated on your room key at check in...however anywhere that takes room charges also will take the gift cards.

Update, I asked guest services if you can use Gift Cards at Gibson Girl and Clarabelle's and they said yes. So it might have been that the gift card readers were having issues, but when things are working, you should be able to use GC at both locations.

Oh good to know! Thank you for asking :)

I would simply ask at the front desk, I'm not sure at what point they will charge your credit card. We paid on our account once a day (usually in the afternoon) and they allowed us to pay current room charges and the night we had previously stayed, but we could NOT pay for anything in advance including the nightly hotel charge. Just the way they do it I guess, make sure no one runs a credit. The only issue I recall having was needing Disney to reverse the room deposit off of the credit card so we could pay it with our gift card, it took some time and I think (but am not sure, it was a few years back) we had to get a manager but eventually they were able to do it. (We supported our school by buying gift cards through their program so we've done a few trips down there with lots of gift cards.) Charging to the room is very convenient and charging privileges can be turned off on specific cards say in case you have kids but you don't want them to have charging privileges. Last trip I found the ID requirement to be hit and miss but make sure you have it with you just in case.
