My grocery store sells gift cards and is giving 4x points this week so I was wondering if I bought Disney gift cards there if I could then use them to pay for my tickets at the booth?

Yes you can. Last year I started using gift cards at the parks. They work like a charm. Fuel rewards are great. Now I'm using my Target RED card go get a 5% discount, and combining that with the $5 target gift cards I receive in the store. I got $150 in gift cards for $127.50. Not bad.

Red Card is a debit card (linkes straight to your checking account) that you can only use at Target and it gives a standard 5% off all purchases (there might be a few exclusions, but not much). The 5% works on Disney Gift Cards.

If you shop at traget a lot it's worthwhile. THere are no fees either (just the boatload of big data they get from your membership).

Two caveats, it is my understanding that the 5% does not work on most gift cards. It works on Disney gift cards because they are coded differently than the other gift cards. Also, make sure the Disney gift card states that it works on Disney parks on the back--I have read that there are some that do not.

Also, I agree, Red Card is totally worth it if shop at Target--you're not going to find a rewards card that gives you 5% cash back at merchants like Target/Walmart. For grocery stores, however, AMEX has a card with 6% cash back (up to $6,000 or so), but it has a yearly fee.

I was told at the store that the discount on gift cards didn't work "in-store". But I ordered my gift cards online, and had no problems.

There are actually two different Target Red Cards; one is a debit card (tied to a checking account) and the other is a credit card. I have the credit card version and I have been able to get the 5% savings in the store on the Disney Gift Cards.

Now why didn't I think of this years ago?!?! I'm heading to Target as soon as work is over.

If you're getting the debit Target Red card, you'll need to provide a blank check so they can link up the account w/ your checking account. :)

We use GC's that my husband earns at work. He gets "applause awards" instead of bonuses. There are a list of vendors that he can turn in his awards to for GC's. Disney is one of the vendors, as well as Marriott. There have been many trips where we've only had to pay for gas and spending money. One time the company who sends out the GC's only had $25 cards. We paid for 4 AP's with a big bundle of those GC's. The gal in the ticket booth was really sweet about it all and didn't mind. I thought she had the patience of a saint!

Red card works on all gift cards except for Target Gift Cards and the loadable Visa/Amex ones.

Me too!

There's the debit card, and then there's a store credit card and a Target Visa card.

This.
It does not matter if your Red Card is a debit card or a credit card-discount and discountable items are the same.

If you use Target pharmacy, you can save even more by 'stacking' the 5% pharmacy reward coupon (after filling 5 Rx's) with your red card discount for nearly 10% off gift cards. It's darn near impossible to find a 10% discount on tickets so this is a great way to go.

(ps- you can also pay for on-site hotels with gift cards)

The 5% pharmacy rewards stopped working on Disney GCs back in April. But the 5% Red Card discount still works.

The first response mentioned the Red Card but they also mentioned target $5 cards. Do you get an additional card with a purchase of a certain amount??

Bummer. Thanks for the clarification on that as I wasn't aware. Was just about to go buy some with my reward cert too. Oh well, at least we still get the Red Card 5%
