I bought my tix through Disney (part of a pkg... YES, the pkg actually was the better deal this time) and assume I will be getting them when I arrive for check-in. I bought 6 day expiring hoppers. Now, I'm thinking for the extra $5 it may be worth to upgrade to 7 day exp. hoppers... so we can head into a park our first afternoon/evening there, if even for a few hours.... Can I do this at check-in before I actually use the tickets at all and only pay the $5 difference?

Yes you may upgrade unused MYW passes.

Take the gate price of what you have and the gate price of what you would like to have, and you pay the difference.

Some packages have a deadline for making upgrades to the passes that come with them. Also all the passes for all the people in your party may have to upgraded identically. You will have to call or email with the details of your package to get the answer on this one.

Normally you can upgrade MYW passes at Guest Relations even up to 6 (13?) days after first use.

This type of transaction (upgrading unused MYW tickets) can be done at the resort Guest Services/Lobby Concierge. It is not necessary to go to a Guest Relations location. The package tickets have the same time frame for upgrading as the regular MYW tickets - 14 days from first use.
