Can I upgrade a 3 day pass purchased from Costco - used 2 days last summer?

In June 2012 my family visited Universal. I bought an annual pass at the park - the pass that gives free parking, discounts on hotels/food/merchandise. The rest of my family - 3 kids (2 over 10 years old) and hubby bought the 3 day passes from Costco. The ones that expire I believe by December 2014. My oldest son ended up using 3 days of his Costco pass so we ended up upgrading it to the cheapest annual pass in case he and I decided to return to the Universal parks before my pass expires on June 5th 2013. His pass expires June 6th 2013. My other 2 kids still have their Costco passes that have 1 day left on them. My question is this: will I be able to upgrade their passes to an annual pass like I did my son's? But I am assuming if I do that, the pass will only be good for 1 year from the first time their ticket was used? So if it was used for the first time on June 6th 2012 then will their new annual passes be good until June 5th 2013? But these passes could be good for more than 1 day as long as we visit before June 5th of this year, right?

That's a tricky one. Normally the pass clock doesn't start until you activate it at the gates but you've got a different situation. I think your best bet would be to call Guest Services at Universal and ask them. I think the best number to call is (407) 224-7840. Explain the situation and see what they say.

I was able to do this (this week), but it took them a while to figure out how...

I would assume that your new ap would start the first day that you used the Costco tickets as you have said, making it expire June 6, 2013. It should be the same as your other son if they both activated their Costco tickets on the same day.

Sorry for the bump, but any further experiences with this? Does the AP year start from the first date of usage, or from the day the ticket is upgraded?

Never did make it back before my and my son's annual passes expired in early June. But my thought was that my other family member's Costco tickets (if upgradeable) would be good as annual passes for 1 year from the date of first use. So if the first use was June 5, 2012, we had to renew before that date and if we were able to upgrade to an annual pass say on June 3rd, 2013, we would be able to use the pass on June 3rd and June 4th, 2013 instead of just for 1 more day (1 day left on the Costco ticket). Since we never made it back, the 3 family members that did not have annual passes still have single day visits on each of their passes. Hopefully we can use them before they expire in I think 2014.

It starts from the first day the ticket is used. It basically turns your ticket into an annual pass and annual passes are good from the first day of use.

So if your first day of use was July 1 for your ticket and you upgrade on July 3, your annual pass starts from July 1.

That's why the Costco tickets wouldn't be any good for upgrading to an AP if you already had used days on them that were further back than a year.

Just wondering if you would mind my asking how much the tickets are at Costco? We are looking for our cheapest ticket option and we are members of Costco. Thanks.
