I can't believe I'm posting this but..... can you bring Peanut Butter in your carry-on or in your checked luggage?
I read somewhere that peanut butter sets off the bomb alerts.:scared1:

My SIL had the same question when we went to WDW in January. She wanted to bring already made PB&J sandwiches, FWIW they went through fine. If you can't get a clear answer I say go ahead and bring it, worst case is you are out what, $4 for PB if you have to throw it out right?

I packed Ritz Peanut Butter crackers in our luggage and they made it through just fine.

Packed in your luggage you can definitely bring it. As carry on I know you can bring it on sandwiches or bagels but in a jar it may be close enough to a gel or liquid that you can't-like yogurt you can't. Check the official site it should be listed. Other wise I would just pre-make the sandwiches and pack the jar in my checked luggage.

If it is creamy and liquid like then no, you can't bring it. My dad works for TSA and I always ask him but sometimes things get through. When I was leaving Honolulu, I forgot to take my huge bottle of sunscreen out of my carryon and they didn't find it. Oops!!

Also realize that if anyone on the plane has a life-threatening allergy to peanut butter, you will be notified before the flight that no peanut products are allowed on the plane. Heard that one for the first time on our 16 1/2 hour wait on standby at the Denver airport.

According to TSA requirements it sounds like peanut butter is OK for carryons if it is under 3 ounces and peanut butter is O.K. in checked luggage in larger quantities. Whew!:cutie:

I think we're in big trouble if a peanut based product will set off bomb sensing eqmt! ;)

what a timely thread!

we are traveling to Paris in a month and my 5yo doesn't eat meat. Rather than trying to hunt down PB in a foreign language, I'm hoping to take it. We are trying not to check bags, so I'll plan on putting it in a clear ziplock and see if it goes through. If not, I'll deal, but that is my hope.

Interesting that TSA says 3 oz or less -- you are allowed as many 3 oz. bottles as you can fit in 1 clear quart sized bag, but only 1 quart bag per passenger. (However, it looks like contact lens solution can be separate, so on the way, I may take that out of the quart bag so I can truly fill the bag :)

My essentials in the bag: hand sanitizer, chapstick, contact solution, mascara

I will probably also try to take travel sized shampoo, conditioner for our first day there, but I'm planning on buying those things there. (I can manage 'shampoo' in French, just not a picky 5yo!)

I just did some quick checking.

Smuckers sell individual little packets of pb (like the jam) that are 3/4 oz. -- might be hard to find them to buy other than a case.

Jif sells "Jif to go" 2.25 oz. containers - my guess is about the size of a fruit cup or applesauce. You can go onto their website and list your zipcode and they will find retailers who carry the product.

The Smuckers are nice in that they are smaller and would be easy to use individually. The Jif ones are a little bigger and you would probably throw more away. But the convenience of buying the Jif ones nearby probably outweighs that.

I can't believe I'm doing all this research and I can't stand the stuff ! (Un-American, I know, but I've finally learned how to make a sandwich w/o gagging). At least I know my 5yo will get *some* protein.

forgot to mention that 3 oz is ok in a clear quart size bag. Sigh!!! I just don't bother bringing anything anymore.

surfgirl -

Don't feel bad, I hate the stuff too. DH & DD6 would live on PB&J if I let them, but I can't even take the SMELL. Barely got through a pregnancy with Gestational Diabetes with my Dr. telling me to eat PB every day because it was the "perfect food".

YUCK!
