Can I Survive another 11 days in WDW w/ Disney-Resistant Husband? *11/25 SURPRISE!!**

What a bummer! :sad2: Thankfully we still have one, it's about a 45 minute drive for me to get there but at least I have one to go to.

Im pretty sure i commented earlier saying how i wish i could be there the same time as your trip for the 40th anniversary so im back to update that i made it happen! I convinced my mom to come with me for a weekend to celebrate my 21st bday (which is 2 weeks earlier) so now we can enjoy the 40th anniversary and food & wine!

It's so sad that they closed your Disney store. I dont understand why they have been clsoing a lot of stores especially if it was the last one, it must have been popular? At my local mall last week i saw they have a new DVC Kiosk set up near the Disney Store..it got me excited because they had a huge picture of the castle to take pics with!

Awww, that's sad. :( It's getting harder and harder for us Canadians to shop there. I really wish they had one here in Montreal.

I find it so hard to believe they were not profitable to operate.

On another note....just noticed from your ticker that your wedding day is quickly approaching! Quickly followed by your Disneymoon! Yay! :yay:

You are right Michelle...at this point I wld feel mighty luck with a Disney store even 45 minutes away.:guilty:

Wow! Yay! Maybe we will see you in the Parks for your belated birthday trip. What a great development! Your 21st Birthday and Food & Wine...even leaving aside the 40th Anniversary, that combination is going to make for such a great celebration!!!:banana::banana:

I'm with you...I just don't get it! Our Disney Store closed this time last year and it was always packed...didn't make sense to us then and it still doesn't!!

Hard to believe, isn't it Queen!:confused3

Oh that's horrible that they closed your Disney Store. I've noticed a few around here have closed too. I wonder if online shopping is hurting their sales. That's the only thing I can figure. But what about the magic of actually walking into the store? Of seeing and touching and playing with the items? Of feeling like you're at the parks when so far away? I guess those things don't generate revenue. :(

It's sad that the closed your local Disney store especially as it had been going for 16 years :sad2:

Wow can't believe so many places do not have a Disney Store when other areas have more then one.

Oh no! It was terrible when ours closed too! Yes, you can shop online, but like you said, there's nothing like walking in and being enveloped by the magic for a little while. Did you get anything nice on super-sale??

Wow - that's sad! I thought the Disney stores are owned by someone other than Disney. I forget who, but didn't they buy them from Disney because Disney was no longer making a profit with them. It's very sad, but I guess it's a trend. Disney is clearly turning a profit, but I guess the stores outside of the park are just not that profitable.

There is still one in our local mall and one in southern Delaware which is actually considered an "outlet". It's sad to see that piece of the magic close.

Your pictures were sad! :sad1:

They closed all the St. Louis area ones a few years ago, too. Now the closest ones are Chicago or Memphis, both about 5 hours away. It is sad!

I find it so hard to believe they were not profitable to operate.

On another note....just noticed from your ticker that your wedding day is quickly approaching! Quickly followed by your Disneymoon! Yay! :yay:

For a while my wedding seemed so far away, but now that it's just over a month away I am getting beyond excited! You can check out my PTR if you want more info on both the wedding and the Disneymoon. :)

Just catching up.
Bummer about the run, but that just means more energy for the rest of the day.

We've not had a Disney store in Australia for the last 5 or 6 years. It was sad :sad1:when Disney closed DownUnder.
Now I have to travel all the way the other side of the world to shop Disney. What a shame....:rolleyes1

:sad2::sad2::sad2:Our Disney Store Closed:sad2::sad2:

Our Disney Store officially closed earlier this month.

We found out a few weeks ago that the store was closing, and watched in horror, week after week as the store got emptier and emptier. By the end it was just so sad to see.:sad2:

The Store Manager and Assistant Manager had been there since the store opened 16 years ago.

Earlier this year, the Store Manager travelled to the States to pick up an award for highest Canadian sales. I just don't get it.:confused3

Now there are officially no Disney Stores anywhere in Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland) and we join the ranks of British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec in having no Disney stores in our provinces.:sad2:

I am glad that for much of the time my kids would be interested in this store they were able to experience it. It was nice to be able to walk into an official Disney store and experience a little bit of the magic so far away from the Parks. No question this store will be sorely missed by many Atlantic Canadians.:sad2:

I'm with you...I just don't get it! Our Disney Store closed this time last year and it was always packed...didn't make sense to us then and it still doesn't!!

I'm with you guys. We had three in our area, and one by one, we lost all of them. Atlanta has three, I think, and I believe I read that Miami has six! What's the reasoning for this? Nashville surely deserves one. We have to go about three hours to get to one. It's really annoying, but I know it has helped me, since I haven't been at any of them spending my money. :thumbsup2 Every once in a while I get something from Disney Shopping, but nothing like what I would have bought from visits to a Disney Store.

More money for actual Disney World trips, I guess. :cool1:

Just found your PTR, I followed your last TR and it was great! :flower3:
I'm from New Brunswick but I lived in Halifax for 3 years until recently moving back to NB. Sad to hear the Disney store in Mic Mac Mall is closed :sad2: I was looking forward to checking it out on my next trip to Halifax in April!

Looking forward to hearing more about your trip! popcorn::

So glad that you are back with a new report!!!

We went last October and did MNSSHP and loved it!!! Crowds were low and weather great!

Stayed at OKW before with my parents. We had a great time. I missed the proximity to everything that the Beach Club has. We had to drive or take a bus to get to pool/store. Still had a great time though and would do it agin.

Our Disney store closed last year and my 7yo daughter just said last weekend "Oh I miss the Disney store. Why did they have to close it?"

How exciting to go for the 40th anniversary!!! Maybe I'll do a quick drive down there!

Can't wait to keep reading!!

Very sad about your store closing. One of ours did as well but there are others still open so we have plenty. I admit to not going there much anymore, it is so focused on preschool and younger child items it can be a little hard, there's virtually no clothing that would fit my kids and not a whole lot of adult stuff either. I do think they could do much better with a different line up of stuff, I feel like they limit themselves. Kind of sad when I find better Disney shirts for my kids at Old Navy.

Hi,

I had been reading your trip report but then got very behind and stopped leaving comments, but actually just finished it this evening and then spied the link to your new pre trippie!

So now I'm all back to front, I'll have to come back and start from the beginning of your pre trippie but I just wanted to say how much I loved your last trip report.

Apart from all the lovely photos of your family and Disney and even the Roots photogrpher probably the thng I enjoyed most was how honest your review was!!!

I always build my hopes up too high and am crushed when they don't match up even in some tiny insignificant way! and although I'm dealing with it and getting better I can still trhow a major strop if things don't go as the plan had decreed! but you were so good in the face of your trials and tribulations (that sounds very dramatic but I hope you know what I mean!)

And I can relate on the Disney resistant husband, my mum has took me and my sisters to Disney twice and has so far refused to countenance dad coming along, she says she wont pay thousands of pounds to listen to my dad whine about the itinerary! she knows how much my dad likes freedom and rugged outdoorsy stuff and a commando type Disney holiday which is what she loves is probably his nightmare!

A long explanation but I am looking forward to reading the new trip plans and seeing more photos of your lovely family and picking up some good advice from your experiences!:goodvibes

I am planning a last minute trip for spring break right now. I usually have all the coordinating outfits for my kids and ADR's chosen 180 days out so this is scary for me.

I am planning on some down time for my Disney Resistent husband too. having a hard time deciding on ADR's because of that though.

I can't imagine online shopping would have hurt sales in Canada, as by the time we pay shipping and border taxes, you wld always be better off buying in store. I can't quite understand how they wouldn't make money off those stores...not to mention the goodwill for the Parks by continually stoking the brand.:confused3

So sad that your Disney store has closed! :(

I know!:sad2:

It's sad that the closed your local Disney store especially as it had been going for 16 years :sad2:

Wow can't believe so many places do not have a Disney Store when other areas have more then one.

In Canada they are certainly getting scarce, that is for sure!:guilty:

Oh no! It was terrible when ours closed too! Yes, you can shop online, but like you said, there's nothing like walking in and being enveloped by the magic for a little while. Did you get anything nice on super-sale??

I actually didn't buy anything in the close out sales. Much of the good stuff didn't tend to last long in that store anyway, which makes the closing even more surprising.:confused3

Wow - that's sad! I thought the Disney stores are owned by someone other than Disney. I forget who, but didn't they buy them from Disney because Disney was no longer making a profit with them. The Disney Stores were owned not that long ago by the company that runs the Children's Place, but Disney bought them back a couple years ago. Not long after, they started closing many of the stores, and I actually thought that we had dodged a bullet when we were one of the ones in Canada that survived the first year or two of closings. The staff had actually thought that as well...they only received the notice of the closing shortly before it went public. And one of the staff happened to be on vacation as WDW at the time.:sad2:

I suspect they likely came up with a schedule for the closings based on when it made the most sense based on the various store leases, which likely meant staggered closings over several years as opposed to all at once.

They closed all the St. Louis area ones a few years ago, too. Now the closest ones are Chicago or Memphis, both about 5 hours away. It is sad!

Agreed!:sad2:

For a while my wedding seemed so far away, but now that it's just over a month away I am getting beyond excited! You can check out my PTR if you want more info on both the wedding and the Disneymoon. :)

Wow...how exciting! I will have to stop by!:)

Miami has 6??!!! Seriously??!!! I can't understand that one at all. :confused3

I am really looking forward to seeing Old Key West, and hearing that calypso music piped in around the resort. Honestly, that is one of the things that can really put me in the vacation mood, and one of the things I liked so much about CBR. If the BC wld just add that music, I wld be all set.

I agree, it will not be as convenient being at OKW as opposed to the BC. However, I am still so thrilled we were able to get a trade onto Disney property. OWK (or any Disney property) is better than any other timeshare in Orlando as far as I am concerned!;)

So jealous of you being able to drive to WDW for a quick little trip! That must be so nice!!!
