Can I Survive another 11 days in WDW w/ Disney-Resistant Husband? *11/25 SURPRISE!!**

Yay Chris!
Sorry the family run didn't work out for you this trip. There's always next time. ;)

I love the Small World collection at Nordstrom. So cute!

Yay for Chris running the half. I, along with a bunch of Diser's are doing the 5k at AK. We were also a little disappointed it is not at MK. I can understand why though.

Those clothes are so cute. Both girls should still fit in them :)

I support your decision not to run as well. I'm confident there will be another time when the dates all work out right and it's just meant to be. I do think it's great that Chris is doing it and really hope you can figure out a way to meet him at the end. I think the last thing you need is that kind of stress and pressure both before and during your trip, it sounds like the right choice this time. Big bummer about the family run not working out.

It will be really special to the there on 10/1!!!

I am doing the half this year. It'll be my first one and I'm so excited its going to be at Disney! I started training in January so I am hoping I will be ready by then. I did a 5 mile race yesterday and it went well, but I am totally feeling it today! I am a little bummed about not being able to fully enjoy the MK on 10/1, but I think the half will be a different kind of magical experience. I am hoping to make it to the MK for at least a little while maybe late morning, leaving plenty of time to rest in the afternoon. That is too bad about the 5K route changing. It would have been fun to run through the castle with your daughter.

Are you guys planning on doing MNSSHP? There are a bunch of us DIS-ers going Sunday the second and meeting up for the second parade.

I am off to shop for those Small World clothes, they are SO cute! Thanks for posting them!

Those outfits are too cute!!!

I know!

It definitely is a great reason to visit Disney again..though am not sure if an excuse is required!

I love the outfits collection - they all look soo cute :thumbsup2

Aren't they sweet?

Yay Chris!

Yeah...kinda a disappointment. However, on the brightside, at least I won't be forced to head into the Park all hot and sweaty that morning.

Those outfits are adorable!

Amanda

Really cute aren't they?

Hey Mary...have fun with the 5k! If it was at the MK I would have been right there with you! Hopefully we will still end up bumping into each other in the Parks.:)

Thanks Cynthia! I think it really will be great being at the MK on October 1.:goodvibes

Hey Kacey...so glad you are doing the Half! That is awesome!

We actually going to be there for the MNSSHP on Sunday as well. It is already going to be a day for relaxing poolside (our last day at SAB), especially given Chris' participation in the Half the night before. I wld love to meet up with everyone at the parade. I am sure there will be plenty of Disers there...Lou Mongello will even be broadcasting live. Already excited!!!

Bring Back the Beavertails!!!

Does anybody remember the quintessential Canadian treat...the ever-popular Beavertails, which at one point were sold at the Canadian Pavillion at Epcot?

You know, the fried dough pastries with cinnamon (or any one of a half-dozen other varieties) that are a complete heart-attack in the making, but ohhh, so very good!!??

Well, fortunately for me, they actually sell these at a couple places close to me, including our ski hill. Since January we have been heading up pretty well every weekend, and our Beavertail treats have become something of a weekly indulgence.

Unfortunately, ski season is quickly drawing to an end. Snow is melting and bare patches are cropping up all over the mountain. Which for us, will soon also mean the end of our weekly Beavertail snack.

For those of you who mourn the loss of this delicious pastry, and unlike me, don't live close to a Beavertails outlet in Canada, here is a recipe for the ambitious among you who want to try their hand at cooking these things up at home.

Beaver Tail Pastries

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/2 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 1/3 cups warm water (110 degrees F)
1 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons white sugar
5 - 8 cups flour (1/2 whole wheat and 1/2 all-pupose)
fresh lemon juice
white sugar and ground cinnamon

Directions:

1 Dissolve 1 tablespoon sugar and yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Set aside until creamy.

2 In a large bowl, mix together oil, 2-1/3 cups water, salt, and 4 tablespoons sugar. Add yeast, and gradually mix in flour. Place dough in a buttered bowl, and turn to coat. Cover with a damp tea towel, and place in a warm place to rise for 1-1/2 hours.

3 Form dough into balls about the size of eggs, then roll flat to make ovals about 1/4 inch thick.

4 Heat oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) in a deep fryer, pot, or electric frying pan. Fry doughnuts one at a time, until light brown on both sides. Place on paper towels to drain. Sprinkle with white sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice while still hot.

Makes 3 dozen

Personally, I think we should all keep lobbying Disney until they finally decide to bring these back to Epcot. No Canadian Pavillion should be without them in my opinion!;)

I've never heard of beavertails either but they look and sound a lot like elephant ears...YUM!

Sounds like you made a good decision to skip the marathon this time. You will be able to cheer Chris on and enjoy your trip without stressing about getting "here" and "there".

The outfits are so cute! Perfect for touring the countries in Epcot. I'm sure I would be trying to figure out a way to make my kids fit into them!!

Can't believe I've never heard of a Beavertail before! They look so yummy! popcorn::

Yay on still being able to get a weekly fix! Thanks for sharing the recipe but am afraid I'm not a very adventurous cook :lmao:

Think we should start a petition and send it to Disney - maybe they will reconsider ;)

I've never heard of a Beaver Tail pastery! They look and sound sort of like a Mexican sopapilla. I saved the recipe, the kids are on spring break this week so maybe I'll try my hand at making them. :thumbsup2

I remember first reading about beaver tails on the DIS and we were so excited to try them on our next trip after hearing about them. Much to our dismay, they did away with them about a month before our trip :( So sad! We never got to try one :sad2:

Mmm, those beavertails sounds so yummy! Someone should write a petition to Disney-- seems like they're a quintessentially Canadian snack!

I've never tried a beavertail but they do look yummy.

If you ever get a chance - do so!!! They are delish!:)

Holy smokes!!! They look as large as a pizza!!! :scared1: But they do look very yummy!!! :thumbsup2

Well kinda like a big piece of pizza. Very, very tasty!

They are a bit like elephant ears...but I think a bit thinner.

I really wish that I could squeeze my 8 year old into a 6X, but sadly, I don't think it will work. They are just a year or two too late for me.:sad2:

Let's start that petition now!!! I really have no idea why they were taken away. I heard a rumour that they couldn't get the product down in FL, but that seems completely absurd. If Starbucks can ship their frozen baked goods to Canada, I am sure the reverse would work as well.:confused3

Girl you are ambitious! I should just ship you one...that recipe seems very labour-intensive to me!

Oh what a travesty. Just kidding...but pretty close to it. They are mighty, mighty good!;)

Let's do it!!!:)

The beavertails look delicious!
I may try making them with my 3rd graders.

Wow - another adventurous one! Let me know how it goes!;)

So....who is it gonna be????

Emily....or Chantal????

My money is on Emily. But I like Chantal too. That Brad sure has a tough decision.

Who is tuning in???

:lmao:Trish, you're too funny!!

Ok, I think Brad will choose Chantal and either Emily or Ashley will be the next bachelorette. Let's see what happens because I've invested all this time since it began and there's no way I'm missing tonight:laughing:!
