Can I Survive another 11 days in WDW w/ Disney-Resistant Husband? *11/25 SURPRISE!!**

I also agree with everyone here and yes, I could have written that post too.

Like Brook said tackle some really small, and specific. It helps.
I too am sometimes overwhelmed by the things I have on my "to do" list mostly because I need to get this done before I can tackle that and then I have this house of cards and nothing gets done.

It all can get done. It is not going anywhere right? Baby steps and you will get there. Make peace with your "to do" list.

DO NOT feel guilty. You are a busy mom and do a great job and so deserve your vacation.

Oh Trish.

I could have written that post too. I am so very frustrated with that situation myself, I was doing really well before the girls trip but it's been downhill since then and beyond discouraging, it definitely made cruise wear a bit of a challenge for me since nothing fits right (and fits less so after a week of non stop eat and drink) There is nothing worse on vacation than feeling like that. Take the weeks you have and do what you can, you will feel so much better on the trip for it and it will help you enjoy it that much more. You can knuckle down when you get back.

As my mother in law says....getting old is not for sissies and it is so hard to fit it all in, even if the others around you are fit and healthy.

I think it absolutely sucks myself. :rotfl:

DO not however, feel guilty. Yes you deserve it.

Loved hearing about your GF stay & the view looks wonderful. Can't wait to hear about your dinner at V & A's.

I think you are not alone Trish. We ALL want to do better in certain things in our lives & we promise ourselves that we are going to make all these changes but then life has a way of catching up to us. I joined WW in April & have lost about 25 lbs BUT it has been really slow going the last month or so & I had promised myself I was going to get 40lbs off before our cruise in October. Now, I know I am probably not going to reach that 40lb goal, but if I stop going to WW now, I will start putting the weight I HAVE lost right back on, so I am determined to keep on plugging along. Weight is such a big deal & it's so easy to beat yourself up about it.....I know everyone has their own idea of overweight & it's all relative......but Trish I think you are beautiful & I would love to be your size. Stop being so hard on yourself..........& by all means enjoy the heck out of your trip.

This sounds like a conversation that I play in my head!!!!!!! The plans of mice and men

Hello my friend...I think you need a few of these:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

Hang on one sec...gotta get up on my soapbox.....ahem.....Ok, no one deserves this trip more than you.....the fairies won't purge your house, you can do it when you get home, if you don't lose the 10 pounds....have fun and be thankful that you are healthy enough to have a wonderful vacation with a family who loves you very much!

Two secs....ok, off my soapbox....I want you to go and have the best time ever! I need another one of your TR's please and thank you:thumbsup2

Unless I was able to get a really good rate, I probably won't be back to the Grand until the DVC property opens and can use points. ;) That was part of my decision to purchase DVC...can't wait to stay at the Grand Floridian Villas!

You are right Mary Ellen - it was a very spacious room. And I actually loved being there, frou frou decor and all!

Can't wait for GF DVC...seems like it might be here sooner than you would think!

Did you guys buy into DVC? I am just now catching up on your latest thread about your up and coming Oct. trip. Which resort did you buy into or plan to buy into? :)

I can totally relate with the weight loss part.

The turning point happened for me the day I went on the scale and realized I weighted more two years after my pregnancy than the day I checked in at the hospital to give birth. :sad2:

I also realized I would not be able to do it on my own. So I looked for help.

I signed up at Weight Watchers and it literally changed my life. I swear I could be their spokesperson. I never once fell deprived and I can honestly say I have never been so excited about food in my life! I lost 30 pounds in 10 months and would like to lose 5 more. ;)

Enjoy your vacation and do not allow these self imposed deadlines to spoil your trip. And remember that the love of your family is REALLY what matters the most.

Have a great week!

Don't beat yourself up so much! I think you have made the same promises we all make!
I've gained 10 lbs in the past year (since I started running - ironically). Everyone tries to tell me it's muscle but I know that my clothes aren't fitting great. And even though I'm certainly not fat, I've had several people ask me if I'm pregnant. :scared1: I had lost too much weight a few years ago when I though my life was falling apart (long story but not for here) and I was ok with gaining some weight back. But now I'm 10 lbs above that weight.
I ate very carefully on our recent trip and actually lost a pound or two at Disney. I didn't deprive myself but I tried to order more carefully than usual - yesterday I had soup and salad for lunch, as an example, and it was delicious and I didn't feel disgusting after I ate it!
Start with baby steps. Change one thing at a time. Spend 15 minutes de-cluttering. But enjoy your trip!!!

Amanda

Just catching up here on your last couple updates! I had a chance to tour the Grand Floridian during my recent visit and it surprised me a bit too - I liked it more than I ever thought I would from pictures. Your rate was INCREDIBLE! So glad you took the plunge! I'm really looking forward to the V&A review!

As for deserving the trip, yes you do! Even if you haven't followed through with your vows, you deserve it. And there is still hope for the house - maybe just focus on one instead of it all, and it will seem less daunting? Pick the junk drawer, since it's the smallest space! But maybe it will start an organization spree!

As for the weight - I understand! I battled the same thing after having Henry and still struggle with 10 pounds that I'd love to lose, but always sneak back quickly. Post Disney is an excellent time to start! Do you plan on doing a certain program? I LOVE WeightWatchers since it lets you still indulge and truly teaches balance. You can do it!!!

Brook - first off, thank you so much for mailing the Disney postcard to my kids! It arrived Thursday and was mighty exciting!!! Let me know if I can return the favor for Henry when we will be there in Oct...maybe just a "Hope you enjoyed your trip, and can't wait for you to return" variety.;)

Yes - you are right. It was a really wise decision to book the GF for our last nite. When else am I going to stay there for $175/nite, and it taught me that I love staying at WDW's flagship resort...score one for Disney. They always get us.

Thanks for the motivation/how-to tips. Sometimes it really can be overwhelming, but accomplishment of getting thru one task can really motivate you along to the next. I am hoping to put that into practice today!;)

How funny you mention WW...I have had this recommended by so many people. Probably worth me checking out when I get back as you suggest...I have no intention counting points on vacation!;)

Trish - You DO deserve this trip!

If you need some support for weight loss, I'm hanging out here with two or three others...
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2572357&page=13

And as for using the camera in manual mode, I've been hanging out on the photoboard and been playing on the photo scavenger hunts run by Pea-n-Me. For me, it's been a great and fun way of getting into the habit of taking shots and also to move into manual mode shooting. It's also great seeing how other photographers are shooting the same category.

I will warn you that it is expensive hanging out on that sub-forum because I now have a couple of lenses that I don't even want to think how much I spent on.

This year's summer scavenger hunt is about to finish but there should be one for winter. Hope to see you there posting like the rest of us photonuts

Love the tips about the photo board! I actually purchased a lifetime membership quite awhile ago on Clickinmoms, but haven't been there in ages. This is going to be a huge priority for me once I get the other things (fitness, diet, and clean, streamlined clutter-free house) in order. Hopefully over the Christmas holidays I can spend some time starting this again and finally finishing Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure.;)

 Of course you deserve this trip!! :goodvibes. I can totally sympathize about yet to be fulfilled promises to yourself. I am working on ( or more accurately NOT working on) a few myself, including the weight thing. It is tough and time definitely does get away from us quickly and easily.

But as you said there IS a month left and that is enough time to start on each and make some progress. I love the suggestions of starting with a junk drawer or photo class/challenge. I think that is the key - starting with smaller and achievable rather than grandiose goals. Although I have previously established myself as not particularly successful in this area...:rolleyes1

So glad that you are not putting eating restrictions in place while on vacation. I totally agree that the food is one of the best parts!! ::yes::

Hang in there! One month!! :yay::woohoo::woohoo::yay:

Thanks Christine! :goodvibes I assure you that I won't be pulling the plug on the trip, but on the same hand, I also feel that we all have to pull our weight, and live the best lives we can, and sadly I haven't been doing my part. I would have felt so much better if I could have celebrated accomplishing the 3 goals I had set for myself, but instead, I just feel very guilty that I didn't, and as a result, more than a little undeserving of a vacation.:sad2:

However, I will try not to dwell on that on vacation, and will definitely have a Grey Goose slushie for you, and warm things up for your arrival!:goodvibes

Wow, you are a month away! Don't be so hard on yourself. I am sure in a month you can figure out your camera. All you need is a day to spend learning all of the different modes. I am sure that you can get some of your organizing done before the trip. You don't have to do all of it. As for the weight loss, I am always torturing myself with it. Even though we are leaving in a week and a half, I am still going to try to lose a pound before we go if it kills me. After this weekend's hurricane I have no excuses for eating junk! Just hang in there, everything will work out!

Hey Andrea...I am guessing you are actually away on holidays right now...hope you are having a blast!:goodvibes

Unfortunately I suspect it will take me the better part of a year or more to really start to feel comfortable shooting in manual, so this trip I will have to be content in the auto modes. Typically you end up shooting far worse when learning manual before you start to get better, and I certainly don't want to experiment on the trip!:scared1: However, it is high on the to-do list when I get back.;)

OMG it sounds like I wrote that post! I’m 32 days away from my trip and having the same feelings! Except for the camera part (I stick with my Cannon Elph!) I vowed to have my house in pristine order when I left. The clutter cleared, and the closets organized. Luckily I had house guests last weekend so I did get it looking slightly better. But there is still a lot of stuff shoved in the closets/drawers that desperately need sorting and purging! I also have a bunch of projects at work that I was hoping to have completed so I don’t stress out about them while I’m away. Ugg.

And the weight thing. I too lost all my pregnancy weight with #1 within weeks of delivering. Of course I thought it would be no problem when my daughter came along. Well, unfortunately I never lost all of it and in the last few years I gained another 10 lbs! :scared1: I’m also turning 40 in February and I really want this weight off of me. Since it’s too late to lose it all I’m trying to also drop 8-10 lbs before I go. I’m walking or hiking an hour each day and/or running 30 minutes each morning. And I’m cutting out all the junk food and only eating healthy foods. So far I have lost a few lbs. so I did make a little progress! We are also taking a 4 day cruise on the Dream so that means extra bathing suit time for me! Yikes!

So – with a month to go, we CAN make progress. Maybe we won’t reach the perfection we both strive for but I think if we get some of our projects done and lose some weight we will both feel ok about it! Good luck and stay motivated!!! :cool1:

Oh, thank you so much for posting that, and letting me know I am not alone! Good for you for starting to get organized, and taking some huge steps on the exercise/weight loss front. You are definitely far ahead of me. Personally, I don't know what I feel worse about...the added weight and clutter, or the fact that I continue to break promises to myself to get these taken care of for once and for all.:sad2:

oh no you don't!!! :goodvibes:hug:
I feel like I could have written that post too! You so do deserve to go!! and trust me on wanting and having a list a mile long with every intention of getting it all done. My house needs a major decluttering and my body does too!! :rotfl: Heck, I use the dumb excuse that I am a runner and I need the extra calories.. :lmao: uh huh.. sure.. I'm not a race horse!!! ;)
I need to drop about 25 pounds and about 10 of them crept up on me this summer while I was trying to lose the 15 :lmao::confused3 go figure!

You so deserve this!! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for letting me know I am not alone! Too funny about feeling as though you "need" the extra calories you burned running...that sounds like something I would say too!:rotfl:

I'm a teacher and every summer I have these big plans of all the things I want to accomplish before the next school year. Then September rolls around and I haven't done a single thing. The main reason is that my plans are so grandiose that I feel overwhelmed and exhausted before I even start attacking them.

This year I did something different. I made myself a to do list, separated in small categories, with lots of small and specific things to do, and I checked them off as I did them. I knew there was no way I'd ever get through the entire list, but I had decided that doing at least 50% of the things would be a success for me. Well, it worked! Even if I didn't do everything, I still did a heck of a lot more than all previous summers.

So I would suggest the same thing to you. And be very specific. Don't write "Ironing clothes", instead write "Ironing black pants; ironing blue blouse; tidying up this drawer; bringing this to goodwill; etc." Tasks are a lot easier to undertake this way. :goodvibes

But no matter what, of course you deserve that trip!

Great advise...thanks so much! I am attacking a bunch of things today, and will definitely keep this advise in mind! And good for you for accomplishing what you wanted this summer!:)

You are so, so right! At times it is easy to stagnate just by feeling completely overwhelmed at where to begin. Well, I am starting today, so hopefully I will feel some progress has been made by the end of the day.;)

I will completely agree with you and your wise MIL...it does kinda suck. I thought I had a free-pass for never having to watch what I ate after 25 years of living in a thin body. Funny what age and inactivity will take away from you.:rotfl:

Cruise...geez, have you already gone and returned??? I will have to check that out pronto! I must admit...up until a few days ago when I heard Pete & Walter's account of their cruise on the Disunplugged, and read Pete's photo blog, I had absolutely no interest in ever sailing to Alaska. Now I am all ready to sign up for one! Can't wait to read all about your experience!:goodvibes

First off Mel...whooo hooo to you for losing 25lbs!!!:banana::banana: That deserves some dancing bananas for sure!;)

You too have had success with WW? I keep hearing about it more and more...sounds like I will have to check it out when we get home from our trip.

I guess we can each work on what we can before our trips, but then more importantly come back and finish what we didn't get through after we return. I have to keep reminding myself that even though I have failed miserably in doing anything to get ready for any of my trips these past few years (and have a million broken promises to prove it), I have a whole life ahead of me after the trip that I can do something about...if I CHOOSE to do it.;)

Awww Queenie...you are such a sweetie...thanks my friend. Just your post itself reminded me how fortunate I am for so many things in my life. Despite neglecting it, I am so lucky to have my good health, and the health of my family, plus a bunch of great friends to share this trip with.

You are right...my to-do list will be there to greet me when I get home. But, and this is a big "BUT"....I just really need to somehow find it in me to actually stop talking about it, and just DO IT when I get back!;)

Did you guys buy into DVC? I am just now catching up on your latest thread about your up and coming Oct. trip. Which resort did you buy into or plan to buy into? :)

Yep...we bought into Saratoga, which I personally feel it is the best valued DVC property right now. I have a whole post about my rationale about it about a month or so ago.;)

Oh I would love to read that. Is it on this thread? We own points at SSR and just (fingers crossed) put a down payment on 100 points at VWL:banana: We are hoping it passes ROFR. Our other contracts were bought through Disney so this will be a longer process going with a resale BUT the price was good. :)

WELCOME TO DVC!!! I love it. We became members on Jan. 31st 2007. :)

Q

Ok...now I really am convinced about WW...where do I sign up?:rotfl:

Q- thanks so much for posting this. Both motivating, and helps me feel I am not alone. For the last couple years, I too am embarrassingly close to weighing what I weighed full term with Katie.:sad2:

You are right...I am going to leave at the end of the month and have a great trip. However, I really need you guys to kick-my-you-know-what when I get back as I simply HAVE to follow through on this when I get back.

Don't beat yourself up so much! I think you have made the same promises we all make!

Thanks so much Amanda. Geez, it really helps to hear some similar stories! I can't hardly believe anyone could have said that pregnancy comment to you:scared1:...do they need their eyes checked??!!! I too have had a couple comments like that myself...but it is hard to get upset when I actually do look pregnant. Not that I don't have extra weight on other parts of me, but I tend to really collect it on my stomach.:sad2:

That is absolutely great that not only did you not gain any weight, but actually lost weight at Disney.:worship: I really hate to even think about limiting myself on vacation. However, I also don't want to come back to an extra 10 lbs to lose either.:sad2: I am hoping to only gain 5lb or under during our 11 day trip. So while I will indulge, I will try to stay away from overdoing it too.;)

Quick little update...

Just a quick little update. Sadly, once again, I haven't followed through with my resolution to start exercising and watching what I ate the last month before the trip.:sad2:

We went away for some of the long weekend to my parents' camp, where a ton of indulgent foods awaited. Then we hosted friends for dinner and an evening campfire where creamy seafood chowder, homemade blueberry pie, and smores featured prominently on the menu.:rolleyes1 And I haven't even laced up a sneaker...:sad2:

I guess I still have just over 3 weeks left, so I will still see if I can get back on track (or more accurately, just get on track period!) and see what I can do about shedding a couple lbs before I go, just so that hopefully I don't come back worse than what I am now at the end of the trip.

As for the cleaning/organizing...well, I am literally about to start that right now. Chris left with the kids to drive to a really great beach with lots of hidden fossils. While I wanted to go with them, as this is the last day off before the kids start school, I knew it would be better to stay home to get some things done. So hopefully when they return in a couple hours I can feel good about getting some things done.;)

Sorry about the lack of updates over the weekend....between being away, and then hosting friends, I haven't had a chance. And I certainly need to put the computer away now and get some tasks accomplished. Next weekend though I promise to be an updating queen!;)

The weight thing is tough. At my age its literally impossible to lose weight, so I just focus on eating healthy foods as much as possible and exercising. I think having a certain level of fitness can make you feel better about gaining a few extra pounds.

Don't feel bad about not learning your camera.

Do this - try to use your P mode as much as possible. While in the P mode you should be able to change your light balance and ISO or put them in a manual mode. This will allow you to fool around with different light settings. Shutter speed and aperture will all be manual.

Then fool around with your Tv mode (shutter speed). shorten and lengthen the shutter speed while photographing water. You will see immediate results.

Then use your Tv on different shutter speeds photographing inside or in the dark without a flash. Compare this to a P mode or an auto mode and you can see the results.

It's all trial and error, so just have some fun with it until you can really learn the camera. For a crash course I recommend using Youtube videos.

Your trip is going to be fabulous!

As I was reading your last TR and this PTR, I found myself jealous that you don't seem to require much sleep and seem motivated to use your extra evening hours to go shopping, or back to the park, or to the lobby for some quite time. I struggle with being tired and am usually in bed by 10:30 and am drug out of bed by my kids shortly after 7. When I got to your post about neglected goals, I was able to take you off the "pedestal" and remember that we all have struggles. Thanks for the reminder to be thankful and have a great trip.

Congrats and good luck on your new contract! Hope everything goes smoothly...and if it doesn't, just move on to the next one, right?;) Ours closed very quickly, and no hassle at all. It was a complete breeze.:cool1: (And yes, my update post about it was on here).

Thanks for the tips Mary Ellen. I will have to make a "cheat sheet" for the trip.:rotfl: Now...do you have any tips for how I can eat whatever I want on vacation, but not gain any weight in the process?:rolleyes1

In bed by 10:30, and woken up at 7 by your kids, eh? Would it make you feel better if I told you that I often fall aspleep putting my kids down to bed at 8:30pm, only to have them wake me up at 7 the next morning? Happens more often than I would like, that is for sure!;)

While I have always been a night owl (that is, on the nights I don't fall asleep putting my kids to bed), I am not much of a morning person. Once I am up, I am fine, and actually love the early mornings. It is just getting out of bed that is the hard part. However, when I am at WDW, I have a hard time sleeping because I don't want to miss a thing. I love late nites at the resorts, when all is calm and quiet. I also really LOVE early and serene mornings at the resorts, when all is quiet and hardly anyone else is up. Especially at the monorail resorts. (Or at least at the CR and Poly....I didn't quite make it to an early morning on my one nite at the GF.:rolleyes1) I can't even explain the pure bliss I experience in waking up in the early, early morning to the sound of the ferry boat whistles over the Seven Seas Lagoon, and the sight of the Magic Kingdom in the distance. :cloud9:

Maybe you will see exactly what I mean when you take that 1st upcoming trip to WDW that I see in your ticker. Don't be surprised if you end up being the one pulling your kids out of bed on vacation! ;)

Wow - if I knew that I would be using it on myself right now as we speak! :rotfl:

So Disney is planning something for MK's 40th on Oct 1st?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I've pretty much given up hope that Disney is doing anything for the 40th Anniversary of the opening of the Magic Kingdom. However, I was surprised to see this tweet via the official twitter feed of Walt Disney World.

Posted at noon on 9/9:

@WaltDisneyWorld - We can't reveal all the details, but guests at Magic Kingdom can expect special surprises on Oct. 1.

So what do you all think? I'm still not expecting much. Maybe a couple words at opening, or at some point during the day. Maybe special buttons, maps, pins, or something. It seems pretty late to have the Disney hype machine in full press.
