if we are staying at POR and I want to purchase 6 cupcakes as a gift, can I get those packaged and sent back to our room? Ya know, like if I were to purchase at shirt or something I know I could request those purchases to be sent back to our room. Just wondering about snacks, Carmel apples, cupcakes, fudge etc?

We have always been told there is a no food policy on sending packages back to the room.

To add on, in my experience, if you could use package delivery, they would deliver the items to your resort's gift shop. The items would not arrive until the next day (usually), so it would make sense that they would not want to responsible for perishable food items. Also, it's worth noting that a lot of locations do not have take out containers that would preserve the item very well. For example, Starring Rolls does not have true cupcake containers. They have "to go" containers, but you'll have to lay the cupcake down on its side, so it ends up looking pretty mushed.

they will not send food back to your resort.

when you send a shirt back it tends to arrive the next day and not in your room but at the resort gift shop (although i have seen a post or two on here that says their items were sent to their room so it may have changed recently. i haven't sent anything back to the resort in almost a year)

besides transporting cupcakes is a bit more difficult than transporting a shirt.
the cupcakes could get squished or tip over in the container so the frosting gets messed up.

BUT i have another idea.
you MIGHT be able to have it sent to the front of the park for you to pick up on your way out.
don't quote me on that or anything but it just seems like a much more possible solution than having them sent back to your resort.

Disney won't allow food items to be sent to the resort or to the front of the park. If you want to buy food, you have to carry it with you out of the store. If you don't want to schlep it around, make the food run your last stop of the day (if possible).

1. Correct.
2. If you're staying at Club Level it goes to your room, otherwise it goes to the gift shop.
3. Definitely. I doubt they would even be recognizable.
4. I am almost certain that you can't do that, either. I would hate to see what those poor cupcakes would look like if you could.

On my last trip I tried to send a large tin of caramel popcorn back to the resort and yep, was told no. I had to tote it around with me all day (I was at Downtown Disney).

If you are carrying the cupcakes with you, note that the container situation varies from place to place.

As said above, Starring Rolls does not have good containers. However, I have heard that the Starbucks (whatever it is called) in Hollywood Studios has some of the same cupcakes already packaged in containers.

The Beach Club Marketplace has cupcakes in plastic containers in the refrigerated grab-and-go section, like this:

Seashore Sweets on the Boardwalk used to sell cupcakes (I don't think they do anymore) and they put them in ice cream containers. Here's a photo from 2012:
