"Can I see your pins?" 12 Days of Disney Fun: Oct. 2011 3/13 It's the end.

I'm enjoying your TR albeit quietly! I LOVED the EPCOT in the lettuce! :thumbsup2

Too bad about the drunk people. Gotta hate that. At least it wasn't the whole ride.

Thanks for coming out of lurkdom to comment!

Usually they put a hidden Mickey in the lettuce so at first glance I was a little bummed that they didn't put anything in there but then I looked a little more closely and saw "Epcot"! :)

Enjoying your TR:)

I'm glad! I always worry that people aren't reading it. :) Thanks for commenting.

Great updates!

Your pictures from the Boardwalk at night were so pretty, I really love the Boardwalk area!

I love Starring Roles, I will be going there on every trip from now on! :cool1:

I can't believe you guys got to draw Sorcerer Mickey, I would love to draw Mickey!

I love SE! I wish we could ride without people close to us, I feel like the last time we were on there, all we saw was flashes from people's cameras! :sad2:

Great PP pics!

I am really pleased with my new camera. I still need to become more familiar with it but I haven't really taken the time to do so.

The sandwiches at Starring Rolls are SO good!

Greg was really excited to draw Mickey. I want to draw Minnie next time!

I promise I didn't use a flash to take that picture on SE. It really annoys me when people use flash. On one of our rides on POTC last trip, there were people in our boat that were taking pictures of EVERYTHING with a flash. Ugh! :sad2:

Your photopass pics are great! You two are adorable. I was glad to see that even though you didn't make RD at HS you were still able to FP TSM!

Thanks! :) For the past 2 years, we haven't had many crowds. By no means is it "dead" but it's slow enough not to have to worry about standing in line for too long or missing out on something. Plus there's MNSSHP and the Food & Wine Fest. It's going to be hard for us to go at any other time of year.

Guess where Greg is taking me for my birthday present?

DISNEY ON ICE!!!!!

:banana::banana::banana: I am SO excited! :banana::banana::banana:

My ticker changed!!! :scared1: How did that happen?!

Juuuuuuuuust kidding. I changed it. I couldn't fit 2 tickers and the Disneyland trip is coming up a lot sooner than the Disney World trip. Yes, you read that right. DISNEYLAND!!!!:banana::banana:

I may do a PTR, I haven't decided.

Did I miss something? :confused3

Or did I just forget? :scratchin

How exciting that you are going to Disneyland! And yay for Disney on Ice! So many exciting Disney things coming up. :woohoo:

Great updates! That is so neat that you got to draw Sorcerer Mickey. You are the first person I've heard of that got to draw him. :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you enjoyed SIA, although that stinks that the tables were so close. I don't seem to remember that from when we ate there on the honeymoon, so I really hope that they haven't made it more crowded! I guess we will find out in February...

Ugh, I dislike drunk people just about anywhere, but especially at Disney. I can't believe how many of those mugs they had! :scared1:

I've been reading a LOT on the Disboards, but I find I don't comment much. I'm SO enjoying your trip report, even if I'm coming in at the end, and so I thought that I'd post up to say THANKS for sharing! Have you been do DL before? I'm here in Nor Cal, and so DL is my 'home'. :p We are heading back on the 23rd and were there for a week back in October as well. I hope you do a Trip Report!

I am SO excited to go to Disneyland. I need to go into planning overdrive though b/c the trip is going to come up quick. :)

We were seated along the wall in San Angel and I think that is why we felt so scrunched. Plus, we were right near the section when the wall curves. (Hard to explain without seeing it more than once.)

I couldn't get over it. They were reallllllllllllllly drunk, though. They even left a FULL drink on the floor. :sad2:

I'm so happy to hear that you are enjoying the trip report. I still have 4 more days to share plus our departure day so it's not quite the end yet!

I'm so excited to be going to Disneyland. I started making a list of all of the things I want to eat and I don't know how I'm going to fit them all in. Literally. :lmao:

I'm sure I will do a trip report. :)

Once again, I LOVE your F&W pictures and reviews! I found some things I can't wait to try and some things to make Ben try :rotfl: (he'll eat anything!)

Very cool to be heading to DL! A lot has changed in California Adventure since the last time I was there- would love to go back!

You're about to read another installment of the Food & Wine Fest! :)

I also have something to share about our Disneyland trip.

Thursday October 6:

We were up at 830 this morning because it was check-out day! Notice how I didn’t say departure day. We still have 4 more nights at Pop to look forward to. I got most of our things together the night before so after grabbing some coffee, stopping at the front desk (there was an error on our room charges) and dropping our bags at bell services we were on our way to Epcot!

What were we doing this afternoon? You guessed it. Food & Wine Fest! We were there about 30 minutes before World Showcase opened, so we got ourselves a map of the fest and sat on a bench (see picture below) while we made our plan of attack!

390-1.jpg

We stopped at Ireland first for some Warm Chocolate Lava Cake (with Bailey’s Irish Cream Ganache), we missed this last year and couldn’t let that happen again.

392.jpg

394.jpg

It was TINY. Oh well, we still had a lot of food eating to accomplish that afternoon. Ha! Ha! It wasn’t actually that good at all. When I think of “lava cake” I think of a gooey center that runs out when you cut into it. This wasn’t like that at all. On to the next…

I wanted to try the Kerrygold Cheese Selection (Aged-Irish Cheddar, Dubliner and Ivernia Cheese) with Apple Chutney and Brown Bread:

393.jpg

While not “best thing I ever ate” , it was a cheese plate I’d get again. I’m not a fan of “stinky” cheese and none of these cheeses were. Score! I also didn’t have to share this with Greg because he doesn’t really care for cheese! What?! Oh well, more for me! The biggest complaint I have is that the butter could have been a little softer; it wasn’t very spreadable.

Next, we went over to Greece where I had the Greek Salad with Pita Bread:

397.jpg

No disappointment here! It was simple but you know what they say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

Greg was interested in the Tuna Poke with Seaweed Salad and Lotus Root Chips from Hawaii:

398.jpg

You go ahead and enjoy that all by yourself, honey. Even looking at it now grosses me out. Greg wasn’t too keen on it either. Surprised? I’m not. (We’re not the biggest fans of fish. We enjoy tuna but that was RAW!)

Greg decided to try Feijoada (Black Bean and Pork Stew) from Brazil:

401.jpg

403.jpg

It wasn’t anything memorable. I wish there was more pork and less black bean.

Greg was being really adventurous on this day apparently! (He typically sticks to what he knows.) He got the Pork Kakuni from Japan.

409.jpg

This does not look appetizing at all! It was VERY tough. On to the next…
We stopped at Germany so I could get an Apfel Strudel featuring Werther’s Original Karamell Sauce and Vanilla Sauce:

404.jpg

I really enjoyed this dish last year and it was even better this year. I think they sliced the apples thinner this year, it was a lot easier to cut into with a fork and there was plenty of sauce to enjoy with every bite. I really wish I was eating this right now. (I’m not lying when I say my stomach is grumbling at me!)

Another one of my favorites from this festival was the Golabki (Pork Stuffed Cabbage) from Poland:

405.jpg

406.jpg

Words cannot describe how flavorful this was. All of the flavors went so well together. The light sauce, the cabbage was cooked perfectly (wasn’t too strong tasting, either) and the pork was like a meatball. Yum!

We went to Hops & Barley to get a Pumpkin Mousse with Ocean Spray Craisins and Orange Sauce:

407.jpg

I want another one right NOW! The pumpkin mousse was so flavorful without being overpowering. The orange sauce and Craisins added just the right amount of tart to make this dessert a party in your mouth. Yeah, I went there.

Greg got the Coconut-Braised, Beef Rending with Jasmine Rice from Singapore:

408.jpg

The CM said it was spicy so I don’t know why Greg still got it (he’s not a fan of really spicy) but he did. The CM wasn’t kidding! POW! That wasn’t the worst part, though; the worst part was that I was expecting the coconut to be more subtle and definitely have a softer texture. It tastes like it was seared first and then added to the dish. I didn’t like the almost crunchy texture in a dish that didn’t look as though it was meant to have any crunch.

From New Zealand we shared the Lamb Slider with Tomato Chutney:

410.jpg

411.jpg

Not my cup of tea. I’m not particularly fond of lamb and it was really overpowering in this dish. The bun was bordering on stale so that didn’t help, either. Greg ate most of it and he said he enjoyed it (minus the tomato part).

Greg wanted to try the Harissa Chicken Roll from Morrocco:

412.jpg

415.jpg

I ended up eating most of it b/c I really liked it! It was spicy. The outside was crunchy (like an egg roll but a little more substantial) and the flavors on the inside went really well together.

We also had the Baklava:

414.jpg

Eh, I’ve had better. My mom get’s baklava every year from an Arabic bakery and it’s so delicious. I might be biased.

Portugal was up next, specifically the Linguica Sausage with Onions, Peppers and Olives:

416.jpg

Eat the sausage, toss the rest of the stuff on the plate. It is spicy, though. Not as good as the Chicken Chipotle Sausage from Canada or the Nurnberger Sausage from Germany. Still, worth getting if you’re a fan of sausage.

Lastly, we stopped at Belgium to get a Freshly Baked Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream, a Godiva Chocolate Iced Coffee and the Guylian Belgian Chocolate Seashell Truffles:

417.jpg

419.jpg

418.jpg

I felt thoroughly cheated on the truffles. Really prepackaged?! This is a food and wine fest not a grocery store! They weren’t good either. At least they were less than $2. The waffle was good but the berry compote was very seedy. I don’t remember it being like that last year. The waffle was a little over cooked so it was hard to eat, too. I was so disappointed! This was one of my favorite items last year. The iced coffee was good but it is such a small portion (about 4 oz) for almost $7! YIKES!

We left around 1pm or so and headed back to the Dolphin via the boat one last time. We collected our baggage and took a cab over to Pop!

Up Next: A quick trip to Epcot and California Grill!

I took away my ticker because we're NOT going to Disneyland anymore. I'm not sad. I know we'll get there one day. I just need to make a "grown up" decision and face the fact that a trip like that would make us pinch our pennies for the next few months and I don't want to do that. We're still going to go on a trip. Somewhere (somewhat) close. I'm thinking Michigan. We love Saugatuck and I know Greg would like to go to a casino that's on the way up there. (They have live Keno and Pai-Gow.) We need new carpet. We needed new carpet when we moved in almost 3 years ago. (Previous owners snagged it in a few spots; it's Berber carpet.) I'm sick of seeing them!

Greg and I have been dealing (pretty silently up until now) with a lot of stress, disappointment and heartache lately. It makes it hard to get excited for a lot of things (vacations included). I think a vacation is exactly what we need, though. We've been trying to have a little baby of our own since last summer and it just isn't happening. It's the hardest thing to go through because it's something we can't control. I've taken medication and I'm on my last "round" before I am referred to a fertility doctor. I'm not ready for that and I don't know if I'll ever be. It's already the first thing I think of in the morning and the last thing I think of before I go to bed. I can't let this consume my life. I can't let it prevent me from being happy and enjoying life. I feel like I'm failing as a wife (and woman). Just yesterday Greg said, "I wish we could have a baby." I'm ready to be a mom. I don't really know why I'm sharing this now but I'm sick of being in the dark about it.

Honestly, I don't know what to say about the trying issue. I'm single and probably will be for a long time, since what I'm looking for is so specific. I wish I had something to tell you, but I hope that things work out for you and Greg and having a little one soon  My best friend and her husband were trying for a long time and finally got pregnant a few months ago. She's due in June, not long after my birthday. Things will work out

I'm so sorry you're not going to Disneyland, but it makes sense why you aren't. :goodvibes This is why I'm having such an issue with the one trip/two trips thing...I know I should be a grown up and just do one trip-and maybe NOT do a deluxe to save even more money-but at the same time, Brandon and I are SO stressed, so miserable...and Disney makes me SO happy, and I feel like I need an escape! I think sometimes being on the DIS makes it even harder to be responsible, because you hear all these people taking multiple trips all year and you think "I could do that" but...you really can't! :rotfl:

As for having a baby...I'm sorry it's been so hard. I feel like it will happen for you. When you're stressed you don't get pregnant. Ever heard about the people who stop trying and then a month later they're pregnant? I really believe in that. Maybe take a break, have fun, save some money, and then continue trying in a few months.

I want to have a baby more than anything too, and Brandon and I are just so not on the same page. He wants one, but he feels like we're never going to be ready financially. We've never even tried to have one yet, but whenever someone gets pregnant that I know my heart breaks a little. We'll both get there, I believe that.

I skimmed through your last update... sorry but most of that food just looks gross to me, but I tend to eat like a 6 year old. :rolleyes1 I did take another look at that apple thing from Germany. That looked yummy!

Sorry to hear about Disneyland & the fertility issues. We tried for about 9 months for each of our boys. With Alex, we were trying, then stopped because I got a new job, then we moved into our house & within a month of moving, I was pregnant! You just never know! I never went through any kind of fertility treatment - the doctor told us to wait until we hit the one year mark to worry about that. So good luck to you!! It will happen!

Hey Rachael! I was following along on your PTR and somehow never subscribed to your actual TR! I'm so glad you're still writing it (even though by now I'm sure you're ready to be done! )

I'm all caught so here are the little mental notes I made (and I have a TERRIBLE memory so I'm sure I'll forget a bunch)

First, Jen is right about the baby! The more you "try" the more you stress and harder it will get. When the time is REALLY right, it will happen!

Second, I don't know what is up with the Disney buses the last couple of years but it seems they are getting REALLY bad! Over the summer of 2010, there was actually an instance where a guest started a physical fight with a bus driver because the driver told him that it was full. We stayed at CSR last year and didn't have any issues at all but we were so frustrated in 2009 when we stayed at POP...the buses to and from the resort were either ALWAYS packed or non-existent. It was NOT magical.

You guys tried a lot of the food from F & W! That's really awesome! We always WANT to but then we get there and we try one or two things and that's it! That kinda stinks that a lot of it wasn't very good. I wonder if it's just because of the dish itself or if it's the conditions under which it's made....maybe if it was something served like in a TS place some of it would be better? :confused3

I know there was something else I wanted to comment on but I forget what it is now! Oh! PINS!! DUH! We are OBSESSED with PINS! When I tell you we spent probably $800 in pins between our 2009 - 2010 trips, I am not even CLOSE to exaggeration. My BF collects ANYTHING Haunted Mansion (and ironically those are always sold in really expensive sets...) and we both like to get the limited edition stuff. We went buckwild with Pin Trading last year...but it got us into the AK Parade so woot woot! (We stopped a CM and asked if we could see her pins and she told us we had to answer a question first...turns out the question was "do you want to be a Family of The Day in the parade today?" It was AWESOME!) It's a LOT of fun but it gets crazy expensive if you're not careful. We've already decided we're cutting WAY down when we go in July! Limit of 5 pins each or one collectors set...THAT'S IT! (we'll see how long we stick to that...:rolleyes1 )

I'm glad you shared what you and Greg are going through- I hope it makes the stress a little less now that you've talked about it. Try to enjoy life and each other, and I'll join the others in wishing you both the best :goodvibes

Just last night my DFIL mentioned going to Vegas (he just went in November). I realized that everybody has places/things that make them happy. His escape is Las Vegas, Greg and I's escape is Disney World. For other people it might be an activity rather than a place, such as baking or running.

I skimmed through your last update... sorry but most of that food just looks gross to me, but I tend to eat like a 6 year old. :rolleyes1 I did take another look at that apple thing from Germany. That looked yummy!

My coworker told me that as soon as we stop worrying about it, it will happen. I think I'm almost at that point. (Especially after reading all of the responses from my awesome peeps on the DIS.)

I need to order Greg a few more pin sets for his birthday. I collected a few but I'm not as into it as Greg is. (We're planning on going back to WDW in October.)

I'm glad you shared what you and Greg are going through- I hope it makes the stress a little less now that you've talked about it. Try to enjoy life and each other, and I'll join the others in wishing you both the best :goodvibes

It actually did relieve some stress. I know Greg and I will be parents one day, even if that means adopting.

When we left Epcot, we headed over to the Dolphin to collect our bags and took a taxi over to Pop. I was keeping my fingers crossed that we would be granted our king room request and WE WERE! (I really think that noting it on our reservation with the CM in person (when we spent our first night at Pop) was essential.) We were in the farthest building on the 80’s/90’s section but we had a king room and a pool view so I was happy!

I thought about laying down to take a nap but I wasn’t tired enough so even though the clouds were looking a little angry, we headed down to the pool to relax. I took a little dip in the pool but when the sun wasn’t shining, there was a chill in the air. We mostly sat and planned out our final 3 days and I did laundry one last time.

After a couple hours or so we headed back to our room so that we could get ready for California Grill. I was hoping to stop over at Epcot to get a few PP pictures before heading over to Cali Grill (MK would have been ideal but it was a MNSSHP evening).

It ended up that we had plenty of time to go over to Epcot. We even stopped at one of the Food & Wine Booths to enjoy a couple of drinks! Here’s two of my favorite pictures from that night:

310590_10100339990198940_22913280_51463313_529154288_n.jpg

388291_10100339990603130_22913280_51463322_593516872_n.jpg

We left Epcot with about an hour to get to Cali Grill and we needed every bit of that hour! The monorail was PACKED. We did make it on time, though and before we knew it we were being seated (with a view of the castle)!

421.jpg

420.jpg

We started with some fresh bread and butter:

423.jpg

We were adventurous and decided to try some sushi! (Dragon Roll - Spicy and Tataki tuna with shrimp tempura, bell pepper, avocado, and chili soy glaze )

422.jpg

It wasn’t bad but I still prefer my tuna be cooked (at least seared). Greg really liked it though!

We then tried the Fried Zucchini with Blossoms - ricotta and almond filling, sweet corn puree, cilantro vinaigrette.

424.jpg

Between our appetizer and our main course it was time for Hallowishes! I was beyond excited that we got to see it from our seats! Greg got a couple of pictures:

100_1262.jpg

100_1263.jpg

For our main entrees, I had the Cast Iron-seared Bison - truffle mac & cheese, brussel sprouts, cipollini, smoked bacon, glace de viande

427.jpg

Greg had the Grilled Pork Tenderloin - with Goat Cheese Polenta, Roasted Mushrooms, Zinfandel Glaze, and Sage

428.jpg

I was being adventurous by getting the bison but it seriously was SO flavorful. The truffled mac and cheese wasn’t as good as I was expecting, though.
Greg must have enjoyed his dish because I didn’t hear any complaints!

For dessert we shared S'Mores Valrhona Chocolate Cake - Warm chocolate cake w/molten center, Tahitian vanilla marshmallow, graham cracker sable, and peanut butter gelato.

429.jpg

This dessert was probably my favorite dish of the night! Wow! Luckily, Greg and I were both pretty full at this point so there wasn’t any arguing over who ate more. Ha! Ha!

I was sitting here making ADR plans for our 2013 trip and California Grill was at the top of my list! So glad you guys enjoyed it! We really like sushi so we're looking forward to going here! I wish we could squeeze it on for our July trip this year but there are too many people going and I don't think we could make it work.

Although now I have to go back and look at our list and see if I could change something.....:rolleyes1
