can I rent a car at WDW for a day? I'm staying at All Star and may need to rent a car for a day. Do you think its worth renting a car for a day or take a cab to universal studios?

cab, mears from TTC or Enterprise has a site on property. My SIL rented a car for a day.

Are you sure Enterprise has a location on Disney property? I know Enterprise will pick you up (and drop you off), but I thought National/Alamo has an exclusive contract with Disney? At any rate, the OP can certainly contact Enterprise and use their pickup service, or she/he can rent from National or Alamo and use the free shuttle that either circulates among the Disney Resorts or is available on-call.

The car care center on property has national & Alamo. You can get a one day rental, if you want. They have a shuttle that will pick you up at your Disney resort, take you to the car care center, and then return you to your hotel when you return the car. Check out the codes for these rental agencies on mousesavers.com. I use the AmEx code when I travel (got an AWESOME rate for San Francisco). I live about a mile above Universal, and I can tell you it is at least 12 miles to Downtown Disney; add a few miles to that number to get to your resort, and you'd see what you'd pay in cab fare (although I have no clue how much a cab costs). When I came here for a visit in March 2000, we rented a car for 2 days to help ease the transportation for us to & from the Contemporary for the WDAC convention. We did as I discribed above.

We rent a car for our one day at Universal. I was quoted a price of around $50 ea way for a taxi, and I don't think the shuttle was much cheaper for the 4 of us. You can take the bus service to TTC, and rent from National. YOu can book online at National, and if you join their Emerald Club (free right now) you get a much better price (around $30/day for me for a midsize, including taxes). It's a bit less convenient than a taxi, but saves about $70.
