Can I really book 4/3 deal and separate tickets and use later to upgrade to AP?

I am very close to booking the 4/3 deal but nervous about buying a 7 day ticket package since I have APs. If I buy the base ticket and ask them to separate the tickets and then use my annual pass for this trip, can I really use the 7 day base ticket to renew or buy AP later in the year? A CM told me I would only receive a credit for 4 days because that is what I paid for, but other threads seem to indicate you can get a 7 day credit. I am so confused! I have never updgrade a ticket before.

I have read on other threads that you can do that....you just have to use your pass first and then go to the Guest Services. Your 7 days will now be valued at 7 day gate price. Or you can just get a 1 day base ticket.
