Can I queue and not ride?

Hi,

I am going on a trip to Disney World with a group of friends whom are all much more excited about going on rides than myself. I am consered I will be spending much of my time wondering the parks alone rather than spending the time with those I've come with!

Is it possible for me to queue with them for rides but not actually go on the ride? I have been to Disney twice previous, but I still don't know if this is acceptable practice or not? Is this allowed at all child swap locations? Does anyone know of any rides I definitely cannot get off of once I'm in the queue?

I'm new to the boards and would be extreamly greatful of any advice :) Thank you in advance!

They're not going to force you onto a ride. Just tell them when you get to the front that you changed your mind.

I don't know of any where you can't walk through and go out where people are unloading.

Well, maybe some of the ones that constantly load like little mermaid, Winnie the Pooh. There may be a barrier between them?

Thats great to know, thanks :) the continuous track rides I'm happy to go on, just some of the more intense rides aren't for me! When you see wait times of an hour onwards to get on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (sadly no fastpass for us) its a shame to not only spend that time apart, but also miss out on a stunning queue line. I never get to see the best line entertainment! I would just hate to put Cast members about!

yes, i would go with my DH and wait in line with him for Space Mountain and then i would tell the cast member when it was time to get in a spot for the ride vehicle that i am not riding, and they would tell me where to go and then i sat and waited on a bench right where he got off the ride.

If you are of the correct height, you can easily go through any queue and once at the seater person, who asks how many in the party, the lead person just says "X to ride, one to exit". You will be shown the way out easily enough.

A few notes:

If you know you won't be riding the actual ride vehicle, before you enter the queue with your friends, arraign a meeting spot as most of the "thrill" rides don't exit at the entrance. Some things are pretty easy - Rock N Roller Coaster, you just meet in the gift shop where they are deposited. Since your wait will only be the length of their actual ride, there won't be enough time for you to walk around on your own.

If your friends get stuck on the ride (unlikely), have a plan for what to do. In that case, I would suggest cell phone usage.

If one of the attractions you won't be riding is Twilight Zone, you will have just as much fun using the alternative exit, trust me. You will even get to ride in an elevator. I encourage you to take your time exiting this one and pay attention to the detail. Even using this exit, you still feel like part of the attraction. And the waiting area? Even better because you get to see everyone exiting the dropped elevators. I watched one group of burly guys who looked like they could easily play football come out of one elevator and they said "NEVER AGAIN!" while a second elevator opened and a group of teenage girl with full make up on came running out yelling, "WE'RE GOING AGAIN!" One of the funniest things I have ever seen at Disney World.

As my college age son says "Up until they press the 'Go' button, there's always a way out!" We just went last month and his girlfriend joined us. She has some pretty serious "thrill" ride issues since being involved in a bad roll-over car accident a few years ago. If something is dark & jerky, or you go upside-down, it's a "no-go". At first she'd just meet us in the gift shop, but we convinced her later in the trip to join us in the queue.

I do this quite often with my daughter. I don't like her to wait in line alone (she's 11) and I can't do the thrill rides. Just wait in line like normal and when it comes time to load, just tell them you are exiting. THey will show you the path out. On pretty much every ride it deposits you where the ride lets off so you can easily meet your group. Not a problem at all!

I think waiting at the exit of ToT is actually more fun than the ride. Watching the groups get off the elevators is quite the entertainment. People are laughing, crying, threatening to throw up.... Then you get to look at the ride photos. So much fun!

Yes you can always take the "chicken exit" and usually meet up with your friends in the exit store(provided there is one).

My mommom would always queue with us on Space Mountain. She liked it in there. But she would use the chicken exit. The chicken exit is what they now use for the queue some times. She would stand and watch us from the little windows at the back of the queue room and once we got on she would meet us at the exit. She liked it because it was cool and dark. A nice break from the Florida sun.

Sure! Just be forewarned that at Tower of Terror, if you don't ride, they take you over to another elevator. However, the elevator you go to does NOT do the funny stuff that the regular one does. At least that's what happened a few years ago when I wanted to just do the pree-show. I was a little hesitant to get on that elevator even though the CM insisted it was OK!

My nephew used to do this all the time! He would act like he was going to ride, then right as we were getting in the ride vehicle he would chicken out and tell the operator he wasn't going. They would just show him where to go. No problem at all.

Thank you so much for all your kind responses! You have all made me feel much more at ease knowing I have options, and have the chance to see the queue line too!
Disnut8 - I really want to see Tower of Terror now; words I would never think would come from my mouth!! haha
Thank you ever so much to everyone :)
