I would like to put cash on my key to the world card instead of having my credit card charged. That way i'm not carrying a lot of money with me at the parks and not worry about exchange rates on my credit card. Has anyone done this?

Your KTTW card charges are applied to your room, not your credit card. It accumulates until you pay it off / check out.

Your KTTW card balance can be paid by any method before you check out. However, it has been my experience that resort staff do not allow you to pre-pay your charge priveliges. (I was trying to increase the credit limit so I could eat more fancy food without stopping to pay my balances every 2-3 days.)

In summary, the KTTW charge priveledges are essentially guaranteed by your credit card on file for your room. But you can pay off these balances anytime by any method, including cash.

On our last WDW trip, I had aeroplan hotel cards that I wanted to use against my POFQ balance. I was staying room-only. When I checked in, I found out that WDW actually charged the whole amount of the room to my credit card the morning of check-in date. I asked if they could put the aeroplan cards against my room so that there would be a credit - and then I could use my Keys to charge against that credit. They did that no problem.

So, when you check in, Disney is not going to turn away cash against your room. ;) It's worth to ask anyways.

And also - for other readers - be forewarned that Disney doesn't wait until check-out to charge your room balance to your credit card.

We used Travelers Checks for our room charges. They applied them to our KTTW cards and we just signed over more as the week progressed. I agree about not wanting to use the CC and wondering what the exchange rate was each day. I am sure that cash can be used, if they took our TC's they are the same as cash. And when our vacation was over they refunded us the cash left over.

I have paid cash against my room account at check-in. I did still have the 'acct' guaranteed against my CC must by pre-paying the cash I avoided items actually charged against the CC....hopes this makes somen sense? :confused3

On my last 3 trips I have put money down on my KTTW at check-in as well. I had no problem doing it.

I have done the same thing at Disney with no issues.

We have taken travellers's cheques and applied them to our room everytrip without a problem until our last trip. In May the person checking us in said that there was a daily limit to how much they could cash in traveller's cheques. I explaine that I didn't want to cash them I wanted to apply them to my room so we could have charging privleges. They said they don't do that, they need a credit card on file, and we could take the travellers cheques to DTD or elsewhere and cash them there:confused3. We had the supervisor come over and help but they still made it seem like I was requesting something outrageous that they had never done before.

Before we had a US $ credit card, we did this regularly to avoid the service charges on exchange on our regular credit card.

When checking in we just gave them our cash, still having the credit card attached to the account. The first few times we were very careful in explaining it to the CM as they weren't used to it. One actually charged our credit card for the amount instead of putting the amount on deposit. Lately we haven't had any problems. It can be tricky as they aren't used to refunding guests money at the end of their vacations (we are DVC so there are no room charges).

In general, we thought this was a good option to ensure we didn't pay the service charges on the credit card and our cash was safe from loss/theft. We never had anyone refuse to do it.

As another poster has said..they don't wait until check out to process the card. I was there from Aug 10-17..they applied 50% of the room charge on check in day and the remaining at check out with all the extras....

:confused3

We have everything paid for when we go to Disney. But when we arrive they ask if we want a cc on the room key and then we put down another $500 extra down and the DF goes every 3 or 4 days to check the balance and add more to it if nessecary. We always use cash, we do have a US cc but only use that when we have to.

WE HAve always attached a credit card but paid our room key account with cash...nothing was ever charged to our cc. We have done that 4 times in 2 years without issue

I was also wondering about this. It sounds like it could be quite a hassle. What if I put my spending money on a gift card?! Would that work or is there a limit on how much you can put on a gift card. This is my first trip to Disney World and I am trying to think of a better way to have spending money. I don't wanna carry my debit/credit card around and I don't wanna carry a bunch of cash either. Has anyone done the gift card thing? What do you think is the easiest!?

Easier just to use your kttw card as a charge card and then pay it off in cash every day or couple. We had no problems doing this last spring and planning on doing same again-don't have to carry much cash that way and only need to carry that card-you will need it to gain access to park anyway if your tickets are on there!

Ok...I think we will do that then. We have paid off everything so all the charges would be would be some food and other extra goodies! =) Thanks! Oh and did I see that there is a limit that you can spend ...(random amount) but like after say $200 it has to be paid?!

I just spoke with DF and there is a limit. If you were to go and not put any money down you have $500 to spend. After you reach this limit they will charge your cc. This is how we were dinged on our cc and screwed over with the exchange rate once they reimbursed the cc the first year we went. When we arrive we always put $500 cash down and DF goes every 2nd do or so and checks the amount. For example:

We give them $500 which gives us $1000 we spend $600 we are in the hole by $100 but they have not charged our cc. We pay the $100 off and put another $500 down to bring it back up to $1000. We just keep checking this to make sure we are ahead.

I hope this makes sense.

Yep! Thank you! =) Can't wait to go!

We usually put cash down on the room. Our limit is then whatever amount in cash that we put down. You don't have to also put a cc down on the room although sometimes we've run into CMs that say that you do. Once we had to go to a supervisor to allow us just to put cash on the room.

We've found using the KTTW card for charges allows us to keep track of not only how much we spend but also where we spend it.
