Can I purchase disney dollars with disney gift card

I have enough mypoints for a 25 webcertificate. My idea is to order a Disney gift card from the disneystore online and then take the card to the store to purchase disney dollars which I can then use to purchase passes at Magic Kingdom. Will this work or is there an easier way that I don't know about. Will Magic Kingdom take a disney gift card? Also, does anyone else use points programs to earn certificates towards Disney. If so, which points programs are good? Thanks for your help. Gillian

Hi Gillian!!! Welcome to the DIS!!!

I too do MyPoints and have a Webcertificate. I was going to purchase gift certificates for my local mall aat their site on-line and then use THEM to purchase Disney Dollars. I am not sure if you can use a Disney Gift card to purchase Disney Dollars or if the Gift Cards are good at the parks.
We have a Rewards Board here on the DIS and I am going to copy this post over there. There you will get lots of information about using the Rewards Programs to get to WDW.

I also do mypoints and have twice gotten $10 webbies and I have gotten the $DD both times by doing this and it has worked like a charm and I didn't even have to pay the $6.95 to get the plastic card

First print out the copy of your webbie the page should have your name and account # exp date and so forth..

then take it to TDS and I've explained the whole rewards programs and this wonderful site to the CM ( thought by explaining why I didn't have the card it wouldn't look like I just gotten a hold of someones CC #) I think I got her a little confused but I asked her if hshe could put in the CC# manually and I'd like $DD she asked a manager about it and she just said lets see what happens and it went through as if she swiped my card!!! this manager did ask for ID though drivers license was fine the first time I didn't need an ID

Some one else asked how this works she was from IL and it worked just as easy for her

The WebCertificate should work. I bought a Hopper at TDS last summer using mine earned through MyPoints.

However, TDS will not accept gift certificates to be used to purchase Disney Dollars. I just tried this as I was given a GC to our local mall, which has a TDS. They told me their policy is that you can not use GC to purchase DD's. I am assuming this is a general policy everywhere, but who knows!!

All we asked for this Christmas was for everyone to give us Disney Dollars for our trip, instead of getting sweaters etc. to exchange. Well one Aunt thought well, but gave both my DD and I Disney Gift Cards.
I asked at the store and they said no Disney Dollars, just merchandise. I emailed Disney and they said quote: "I could not use them in the World, only at my local Disney store and on DisneyStore online."
Oh Well, guess we'll have to buy some clothing for my upcoming trip!

Before Christmas I was in the store, buying some pins and they gave me Disney Dollars as my change from a twenty!!! It's adding up quick, and time is running out.....less than 100 days left!! Oh MY!

That's interesting because we got Disney Gift Cards when they had the promotion going on here in Illinois that you got $50 gift cards for every so much purchased...we were able to use the Gift Cards to purchase Disney Dollars. So perhaps it is by store. I would call the store you frequent and ask them before getting the Gift Card.
