We check into WL next Wed. Tomorrow DH will deposit a nice size check for our vacation into our checking account. Once it clears, will it be okay to pay the balance with our check card when we check in?
You should have no problem doing that. On my last trip to WDW, I used my Visa debit card at check-in with no problem. As long as the funds are available in that account, you should be fine.
Have a fun trip! You're so lucky getting to leave next Wednesday.
Hi - Some banks only allow you to pay a certain amount with a debit card per day with a debit card even if you have more money in your account than you approved limit. You may want to verify that amount with your bank before you try to use the debit card and it is declined because it exceeds your bank's approved amount. I believe that for some banks it is a fairly low amount. Also, I think my bank has an approved amount per business day and anything from Fri after 3 pm through Monday is counted as one business day. Have a GREAT trip.
Oooops.....I didn't think about that. Thanks Sherry for pointing that out. At my bank, there is no limit on my Visa debit card, so I can make a $500 or $1,000 purchase and still use my card within that same day. (As long as funds are in my account.)
Well, you might want to do a search on the boards for this subject. I have read some bad things that have happened when people use there debit card. I personally don't use one. I use a credit card and then pay it off as soon as I get back. I know that I have read where people have had holds placed on their accounts for more than what their charges were and some were even double charged. They eventually got it cleared up but their checking account was fried in the mean time. Just thought I would give you a heads up.
Just be careful. I just ran into a big problem with debit card. If you use the card for everthing like i do, it may be hard to get a large purchase through. The banks maximum withdrawl (whether it be $500-$1,000) is within a 24 hour period. If you have any other withdrawls, i.e. onlline service, fuel purchases, etc it will go against your account. When trying to post a large amout, it might not take the withdrawl. It took 4days to get my $1,000 worth of park passes to clear. Also be extra careful on weekends, this counts as one baking day. Good Luck
I bank with Suntrust and until I recently starting putting everything on Am/Ex for points, we used our debit card for everything and never had a problem. We have charged our entire vacation to it before (air, room and rental) and still was allowed to go shopping with it or whatever. It may depend on the bank.
becareful there have been alot of posts lately about people being double charged and mistakes by disney ad when they make a mistake it can take several days to be credited back and then you might have problems
make sure you have a back up plan
when we went w used one of the travel funds cards that you reload it and use just like a credit card
good luck !
I use my debit card for lots of things. I have them run it through as a credit card (works the same way), because my bank changes a foreign ATM fee if the transaction is done as a debit (I think that's dumb, but at least they told me!). Anyway, when I use the card like that, it doesn't count against my withdrawal availability. As long as you've got the money in your account, a debit card can be used for everything you would use a credit card for.
As long as your bank doesn't have any per day withdrawal limits, you should be fine paying your room balance with a debit card.
I think that most people run into problems when they use their debit card for the charging priveleges. I would set up charging privileges using a regular credit card. Then, you can either pay off the balance at the end with your debit card or just let the charges go through to your credit card. We have done this several times with no problems.
I used my debit card without any problems whatsoever. I used it for my deposit, the balance of my package, and for charging privaleges at the resort.
The charging priv. were great. I didn't have to worry about keeping track of all of my purchases throughout the day. We just checked and got a balance from our room phone, a couple of times to make sure we were on track.
Do be sure that bank allows the big amounts, as others have stated.
