Can I Now Pay Checked Luggage Fees At RAC Desk?

Hi-
I think I read here on the boards that you can now pay the checked bag fees right at the RAC desk as opposed to having to call the 800 number. Is this correct? I hope so because that will mean one less thing to do on an always sad departure day.

I doubt it. But, I could be wrong. When I was there last month, you still had to pay the fees before getting to the RAC counter. This is from the notice I got on Dec 13, at BWV....
Applicable airline bag fees must be paid in advance of checkin at the Resort Airline Checkin desk..........yada, yada.
To pay applicable bag fees, please contact Baggage Airline Services at 407-284-1231 between 5am and 11pm prior to checking in at the RAC desk.
If you have overweight/oversize luggage, you may bring it to the desk to obtain the applicable bag fees and then all the number provided above to pay the fees.

So..it would appear that you can't pay at the desk, unless you are on the phone paying that way.

I found the answer by calling the (407) 284-1231 number. You can now pay the fees right at the RAC desk. The gentleman I spoke to said they began accepting payment at the desks around the first of November.

When we stayed at BC in Dec, we paid our fees at the RAC desk on 12/15. From what I understand, they charge you extra 5.00 because it's the same as checking it at the airport. I didn't think much about it until I read on the board about it, and yes we were charged 20.00 instead of the 15.00 if I had called BAGS to pay.
First time I used RAC, I called BAGS while standing in line, paid and got my confirmation # and it was only 15.00 that way. (at least for DL and Airtran)
This is the way I will do from now on. If there's not a line, just call then go to RAC person for checkin.

Thanks for that info tkldisney. I guess a person has to decide if it's worth the extra $5 to use the desk to pay. I only have one bag to check so I'll have to think about it!!
Again, thanks for letting me know the difference in price. I should have known there was a "catch".

We stayed at BLT in November and DH called to pay for the extra bag, did it the day before and could not have taken 3 minutes.

Very interesting! Like Diane, during my trip last month, I called the 800 number to pay my bag fee.

And if you have a credit card with the airline your are flying with, they might waive the checked bag fees. You don't have to call BAGS and get a confirmation number. You just have to show the RAC desk your airline credit card. I have Continental, and we just showed our card...

We paid baggage fees at RAC desk at BWV on Dec. 8. We were flying NWA and because our tickets were purchased before July 16, 2009 we paid no surcharge. From NWA website:

Effective for tickets purchased on or after January 5, 2010, for travel on or after January 12, 2010, customers who check in and pay bag fees at an airport kiosk or with an agent will incur a $2 surcharge for the first and a $3 surcharge for the second checked bag. Customers who purchased tickets on/after July 16 for travel on/after August 4 will incur a $5 surcharge for the first and second checked bags when checking in and paying bag fees at the airport. Customers who check in and pre-pay bag fees on nwa.com or delta.com will not incur this surcharge.

So it looks to me like NWA is actually LOWERING the surcharge fee for tickets purchased after Jan. 5, 2010.
