can I make changes to my reservation if I rented DVC points?

I have been trying to contact the person I rented points from but I have not been able to get ahold of her. We are leaving Tuesday for a week at WDW and I want to make a room request and change the dining plan to quick service because I couldn't get the ADR's we wanted. I have my confirmation # and this is not a question of trust. My question is can I call the resort myself and make changes to my reservation?

Just as an aside, it's mid march and it is a fairly busy time. You can try for a room request, but don't be disappointed if you don't get it as it will probably be difficult.

Call whomever you rented from and have them change you DP.

The DVC member owns the reservation and retains control of it right up till the moment you check in. Any changes to the reservation (such as adding the dining plan) would need to be made through Member Services, and they won't discuss the reservation with you.

You can always make requests at check-in. Your room will likely already be assigned, but if the resort isn't fully booked, they may be able to move you to a different room.

But you will not be able to change the dining plan at check in. You really need to get in touch with the member if you want to change your dining plan by Sunday otherwise you won't be able to change it. MS requires 48 hours for changes to the dining plan. You will have the regular plan for the entire time. If you can't get with the member who made the reservation, you'll need to get some more ADRs.

Member Services will not talk to anyone who doesn't own the points used to make the reservation.

This is a busy spring break time. I'm going to guess that might be why you haven't heard back from the person you rented from. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about not getting your ressies for dining. We found last week we could virtually walk up to most table service places (as long as we went at non-usual times) and get seated quickly.

It's too bad MS doesn't have the ability to let us do this online. It's such a simple thing... instead of emailing them just fill out an online form to add DDP, ME or anything else. I guess that makes too much sense ;-)

I've always wondered if the "Member Services SAID it was added as such and such dining plan" argument would work. Would they perform a guest recovery and get you on the plan, or would they tell you tough luck?

That 48 hour policy NEVER made sense to me. Seems like they are leaving money on the table by not allowing changes or adding it at check-in.

Likely the 48 hour restriction is because the DVC reservation system and the Disney cash reservation system do not communicate well, and the DDPs are controlled by the cash system.

Remember, that DDPs actually have to be added to cash reservations, and pre-paid, MUCH earlier than 48 hours.
