Can I get an app instead of an entree?

Hi. We'll have the regular ddp, and my MIL is a both a picky eater and a small portion person. I was looking at some of the menus, and there are a few restaurants that have appetizers that I know shed like more than the entrees.

I know you can't sub an app for dessert, but I'm wondering if she can order an app instead of an entree.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can. It would seem like a good option from their point of view, but I don't think it's allowed.

Ask. Originally when appetizers were dropped from the DDP, this was allowed. It seems recently, more people are being told no. It likely depends on the restaurant; WDW-owned ones are more likely to agree. While others are more likely to adhere strictly to the conditions set.

Depends on the day, the restaurant, the server, and if Daisy was able to find her shoes this morning.

Also known as, ask when you get there. We have had reports from people who were allowed to. We have also had as many reports from people who were told no.

I was told no at Chef's de France. I was on the DxDDP and wanted two appetizers, instead of an appetizer and entree. The waiter checked with a manager and was told the DDP had to be used exactly as stated, with no substitutions.

Doesn't make a lot of sense. You would think they would be happy to do it since the appetizers cost the restaurant less to make.

Restaurants that are non-Disney operated, but accept the dining plan, are more strict because they are reimbursed by Disney for the diners who use the plan. The DDP does not include an appetizer so the restaurant wouldn't be reimbursed by Disney if they submitted a ticket that said "appetizer, dessert, beverage," but since the diner used a DDP credit, the restaurant has lost money on that entire meal.

We were able to ask for an entree size app. a few times, the waiter just double checked with the kitchen, and there was no problem at all!

I know the OP was trying to pick a smaller portioned item, but you certainly do not have to clean your plate.
