I think the answer to this "no" - but I'll ask anyway:

Can you combine points and cash for a cruise? I have 17 points banked from this year that may go unused next year (we might take a disney cruise and we will be moving our 2011 points to 2012 and pay cash for the cruise). Rather than lose the 17 points, could I apply them towards the cruise?

Thanks!

No, you have to have enough points to pay for 1 fare completely in points.

Also watch the UY rule of 4 when considering trade outs.

Maybe you could use the points for the night before or after your cruise at a DVC resort instead of the port.

To use points for a cruise, you have to pay for at least one adult with points. You can pay cash for the other people in the cabin. You cannot mix points and cash to pay for the same individual). The cash price is the one DVC negotiated with DCL - it might be more or less than the price you can find through DCL direct or a Travel Agent.

There are other things to know about using points, so if you are serious about it, you still have some research to do.

Carol, if you are sailing solo, can you use cash to pay the single supplement?
Thanks in advance . . .

I honestly do not know the answer to your question.

If no one replies here, try posting a separate thread with this question. More "DVC Cruisers" may see your question that way. This is a relatively old thread and thus may not get the looks a new thread would.

No you cannot do that. DD has booked a stateroom for the Alaska DCL cruise next summer, and the single supplement was calculated in points as a single fare. Cash was not an option. We have a total of two staterooms for the 3 of us for that trip. We went this route as there is still a slight chance she may rebook the room with another friend. But, that is not something we are counting on, given the limited DCL bookings for DVC members in 2011.

Depending on your circumstances, you may do better to find a companion to cruise with. That would allow you to use the points for yourself and the other passenger could book on the DVC cash price. :)

Thanks very much for the answer (though disappointed in the news). Any chance you know how they figure the supplement or anyway to find out short of calling MS? I'll have to give some thought to the companion concept.
