Can I bring personalized m&ms from DS on board? (unsure b/e of packaging)

I have a really dumb question...

I was hoping to buy some personalized m&ms at Disney Springs as a gift for someone, but we will be visiting DS before the cruise. I know that open food containers/packages aren't allowed, and as far as I can tell, the m&m personalized packaging are resealable- which I feel would fall into "open container" categorization.

Does anyone have any experience one way or another on this? Am I good to go, or should I skip it?

Will it be in something like this:

That’s from the M&M Store website (bulk bag). If it were in an unmarked bag, like from a grocery produce dept, it could be questionable. Plus, they are non-perishables.

I can’t imagine they’re looking twice at that. Just throw it in your carry-on.

No personal experience. But I wouldn’t think twice about it.

The packaging of the personalized m&m’s is very different from above. It’s basically a clear celeohabe bag that they fold closed. They are also much more expensive so not something you’d want to risk being taken away

Saw this bag in a video this week. It was $21.99!

They may not take them but I honestly do not known how strict they are.

Do you think they would hold them for post-cruise pick-up, like they do other prohibited items?

I don’t know if the storage area is air conditioned. Despite the ads, M&Ms can melt. I’m not going to say they will take them away. I haven’t heard of them doing it before, but they easily could.

I wondered about the melting.

I really don't know how they would look at that so obviously I can't give you a definitive answer. However I will say, when traveling I often have snacks in my bag and have boarded the ship with things like an open box of crackers, open bag of fun size candy etc... No one has ever looked twice at that stuff. On the other hand my friend once took some fruit from the buffet at our hotel the morning of the cruise and she was stopped for that (it was her first cruise, she had no idea).

The issue with bringing food onboard, into ports, and back home is the risk of introducing new organisms into an environment. Meat and dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and plants could spread diseases that could affect animals and crops. Processed chocolate candies are highly unlikely to do that, so I would be very surprised if M&Ms were confiscated or questioned.

I have heard of baked goods being confiscated. Someone brought a big box of Gideon’s cookies. DCK was going to take them, so the family started scarfing them down at the terminal🤣
Haha, this exact story is actually what prompted my question!

Thanks everyone for your responses!

Baked goods could have dairy products and fruits, so that makes some sense.

M&Ms are supposedly made of milk chocolate, which should contain milk/dairy. Most chocolates have dairy but are allowed on the ship, if in closed original packaging. I think it was just bad luck on the part of the Gideon's incident. I think it's very haphazard as to what they decide is and is not allowed.

I've brought opened bags of M&Ms onto the ships several times, and have never been stopped. In fact, I didn't even think of it until this thread. I usually have them in my snack bag for the kids to eat on the plane.

Not that I don’t think doing the personalized M&Ms at the store is fun, but you can order them from the website as well, so why not just order them and avoid the stress?

I know springs has things like Mickey silhouettes, princess crowns, figment… I doubt the m&m site has those options

It isn't fresh or perishable, I don't see it being a problem at all. Like someone else said have carried on other snacks that have been opened already with no issue.

Good point! Unfortunately, we're from Canada so they don't ship to us. #CanadianProblems 🙃

I'm not particularly fussed one way or another about, tbh, just wanted too get an idea about possibilities. Everyone's replies have been helpful!

I have brought Smarties on board with no problem. Were a hit with the kids , they showed them to friends they made. I brought them to eat at a movie or just have chocolate…lol

I really think they are looking for fruit and stuff you can’t take across the border. Not sure why the cookies were taken . Maybe not sealed and open.

Gideon’s is a bakery at Disney Springs. They wrap the cookies in wax paper and put them in a bag or box. So, yeah, they are not commercially packaged. Thee we custom and pick an M&M are also not commercially packaged. They sell them in a clear cellophane bag with a twistie.
