I have a question. Can I purchase some pastries in France for my husband and put them in a zip lock and take them home to him on the plane? If so, should I put them on carry-on or packed?

Thanks - Diane:cool1:

I would pack them because they wont even let us bring a drink on the plane unless we bought it on the other side of the security area......check with the airline before you get there......that way you can be sure

You can take them in your carry-on - better chance they won't get smooshed. Pastries can go through security - keep them in the bag so the filling doesn't get over other things.

No matter where you end up packing them - I would suggest bringing a package of those inexpensive plastic storage containers, vs. zipper bags.

The only reason you can't take drinks is because it's liquid. You are allowed to take snacks in your carry-on and through security. They have never stopped me. I can't see any reason they wouldn't let you.

I don't see a problem, and if there is, just tell your husband how good his dessert from France was as you ate it standing in line!!! Better yet, have someone take a pic of you eating it for him.

Food is not a problem. Liquids are. I usually carry prepackaged crackers and peanut butter if we're not flying business or first class.

I left Philly with 6 canolis, 2 slices of to die for butter cream cake, a HUGE piece of tiramisu, and a cheese steak sandwich with only the comment of you are giving us one of those canolis too right? from the TSA people. Obviously they knew the bakery it came from and were drooling at my lucky bag of goodies. My DF very Italian family believes they should send you on the plane with enough food to feed yourself and all of first class. :P

Sounds like my carry on for a flight back from Boston (minus the cheese steak)...almost got attacked when i tried to enjoy some of it on the flight:rotfl2:

I have never had problems taking food on the plane. They won't allow you to take liquid through security however once you are in the terminal you can buy drinks and carry those on the plane. I've done that a few times and never been told no.

Never thought about bringing back pastries from Disney. Definitely go with the small Ziplock throw away type containers. They're sturdier than bags and your stuff won't get all smushed. I would definitely not pack them in your suitcase. Have you ever watched them load baggage??? Although I have brought back breakables from Europe in my luggage without them breaking, I would hate to open a suitcase to find creme brulee all over the place.

It may work, it may not. Last Feb we tried to bring doughnuts with us (we bought them at the airport Dunkin Donuts before we went through security) and they confiscated them. But last April we brought the cheesecake my kids didn't finish at the Cheesecake Factory, and we didn't have any problem with that. I wouldn't reccomend bringing any pastires with you in your checked baggage though, anything with chocolate WILL melt, and they could also crumble. Plus, if they have to open your bag to search it, they might have to open up the food bag, and if they don't seal it tightly it will go everywhere (I've had this happen to me way too many times)! They're so rough with luggage, myself I would take the chance and bring them in my carry-on.

Whoever took your donuts was so wrong. Did you happen to be flying through Atlanta? I swear they play by their own set of rules over there. TSA higher ups need to go down and retrain the whole rotten lot there. They let me through with a bottle of OJ accidentally one time and yet another time took my solid deodorant from me. I have contacts inside the TSA so I know what is legal and what is not but I refuse to fight with the dorks at Hartsfield.

I travel alot and think there are NO rules for TSA agents, they all make up their own!!!! It just amazes me at what the 'rule of the day is' when I travel.
Feel sorry for the traveler who doesn't fly that much and here they're having to deal w/some of the 'demands' made upon them.

I never thought about bringing pastries back either. Well, I guess my 2nd suitcase down will be storage containers and on the way home, well, my carryon will be carried like a freight of gold:) I really want to bring my sister back the white chocolate slipper from the GF....

I would only carry them on. We packed a tin of cocoa from Disney in the middle of our clothes, and somehow it got all dented on the trip home. I can't imagine what would happen to your pastries.

If you have a connecting flight, it's entirely possible that you won't see your luggage until a day the next day if you or your luggage miss a connecting flight. (This seems to be happening more and more with connecting flights). Plus if you carry them on - you have them handy for a snack!
