Can I borrow and buy one-time use points to complete reservation?

I have a change of plans and need to add two nights to my upcoming stay. I need 44 more points (22 points per night), but only have 27 left in my current use year. Those extra nights will be a separate reservation because we'll need to change resorts to economize, since we splurged for the majority of our stay.

So I need 17 extra points. Do I have to borrow all of those points from my next use year OR buy them all as one-time points... or can I, for example, borrow 10 points from my next use year and purchase 7 one time points. Trying to plan ahead and avoid messing up my plans for next year... or perpetually borrowing.

You can borrow some and buy the rest as OTU, up to 24 points. You have to call to complete this transaction.

I believe I read somewhere that OTU points can't be used before the 7 month mark, so this could be a consideration for you.

You've already got good advice above so I just wanted to add from actual experience that yes, you can indeed do this for a reservation. You do need to call MS to do it. I've done this three times now.
