Can I book discounted room for people I am traveling with?

I thought I read that we get a discount for rooms? Can I use this discount for friends that we are vacationing with?

No but you can give them your point reserved room and you stay in the cash room.

Not sure if there is an actual rule about this but I used the cash discount to book a second room for mil and fil to accompany our family next week-I booked and paid for the deposit and had them note on the reservations traveling together (in an attempt to have rooms close together). MS never said it was a problem when I called to ask (and then book) so I didn't think it was but since then I have seen posts here that say it is only for the member (ie must be staying in the room) and not for additonal traveling party members.

Also depending on where they want to stay and when the public discount may be greater (if avail)-it is often 30% or 35% off for certain resorts vs the 25% discount we get with the DVC discount
We couldn't do that since BLT is an excluded resort from the public discounts

OP - Call MS and ask. Since the cash room would be for some of those traveling with you, MS may allow it. There have been several reports of MS booking cash rooms in this situation, even if the member is not staying in the room.

It is true that in the past, the rule was that the member must be staying in discounted room. However, my understanding is they have relaxed that requirement.

I booked a cash room for my son once and I was not going. Our waitlist came through so we didn't end up needing it, but they did allow me to book with the DVC discount to fill in the missing points night.

Technically it's for the member but as long as you're there, are listed in the room and can check in, you should be fine.
