Can I book a placeholder for myself AND someone else?

Hello helpful Disney friends! I have been reading up on on booking a placeholder onboard, but I still have a question. We have an upcoming cruise with our immediate family. While onboard we would like to book a placeholder. I understand that we are allowed to book two staterooms for one future cruise (by paying two $250 deposits, right?).
  • When the time comes to assign our placeholders to a particular cruise (once we determine which future cruise to go on), can we book one room for ourselves and one for my parents (who won't be on this upcoming cruise)?
  • Do we need to name the stateroom occupants when booking a placeholder as opposed to actually booking a specific future cruise on board? (I have seen people say that you want to name the occupants when you do the onboard booking in case the cruise prices go up, but I wondered if that only applied to booking a specific cruise onboard rather than a placeholder.)
  • Would I need to be named in one room on this future cruise and DH in the other since we were the ones booking the placeholder, or would we be able to book a room for our immediate family and then the other room for my parents?
  • If we CAN book one room for us and one for my parents, can we actually assign the one reservation to my parents, allowing them to make payments toward their cruise, do their own online check-in, etc? Or will the reservation have to stay tied to our account since we made the onboard booking for the placeholder? (It seems to me that it would have to stay tied to us, but I'm just wondering exactly how far we can go with this...)

Does anyone have experience with this? Sorry if this has been answered before! I just wasn't seeing these particular questions/answers anywhere.
    Thanks!

I booked two in 2016. I was traveling with my kids. I put myself and one child on one placeholder and my mom (who was not cruising with us) and my other child on the other. Used to book two staterooms for Alaska! My mom has complete control over her reservation.

That's good to hear she has complete control over her reservation! So do you think I'll need to book at least one person from our current cruise into each of the placeholders?

Yes, you can book two reservations, one for you and DH and one for your parents - we did exactly that for our 2016 Alaska cruise. You don’t have to have one of your names on the second room - you can put it directly in both your parents names. You will have to pay 2 deposits, and you’ll have to move the placeholders to the same cruise once you decide on a specific one.

When my wife and I were traveling alone on a B2B cruise, we were able to book two staterooms during the first cruise, with my wife and I named on one reservation and one of our adult children and their families named on the other. On the second leg of the B2B, we were able to book 2 more reservations. Neither my wife nor I were on either of those. We named two other adult children and their families for those.

The maximum number of placeholders allowed per cabin is two, correct?

The maximum number of placeholders you can book is 2 PER HOUSEHOLD.

If there are two people in the same stateroom, who live at different addresses, each of them can book 2 placeholders.

If there are two people in the same room who live at the same address, then only 2 placeholders (total) can be book on each cruise.

If two people living at the same address are doing back to back cruises, then they can book a maximum of 4 placeholders (2 on each cruise).

Thanks. Do they verify address with IDs?

Fantastic! Thank you both for your responses!

Follow-up question/comment:

DH and I booked 2 placeholders onboard, intending to use one room for our family and the other for our friends. The booking agent advised us to put my name on one room and DH on the other so that our friends could have silver CC benefits (placeholder will be their first disney cruise). So, that's what we did, and moved our placeholders to a Alaska cruise with our families divided between the two rooms (on paper). Maybe a bit confusing, but I guess it's worth it because our friends get earlier access to online check-in?

Hmmm... That's something to consider... That would be nice to get them the earlier access to online check-in (and a CC gift for that stateroom ;)). Now, when you show up for the cruise, I assume that one of you will have a KTWC that opens your room and the other will have a card coded for the other room?? Do you suppose they can switch that at checkin if you and DH each wanted a key to your family's room? I'm just trying to think through what ripples might occur by being booked in separate rooms... Any other issues that might come up that I'm not thinking of? Maybe luggage being delivered to the opposite stateroom? (Again, just a small inconvenience that's most likely worth it for the chance at earlier check-in...)

Yes you can definitely do this....after we originally booked our two rooms, we called back later to switch the names to ensure there was a silver CC member in each room. That way the booking windows opened at the same time and we could make sure we got activities together. It was a bit confusing for the online check in because you had to set up who was paying for who, but not too bad. Once we got on board, we simply went to guest services to see if we could switch the two people who were in the "wrong" room, and it was no problem. They made up new Key Cards and ensured the billing was all set up correctly for each person and we went on our merry way.

I don't know if this has changed, but my dh and I just tried to book back to back cruises while on the Wonder and the onboard booking agent told us this was not allowed. (We had 2 connecting staterooms and even that didn't matter.) I emailed DCL when we got home and they confirmed that we could not get OBB benefits for b2b cruises, only one leg. (1 sailing/2 staterooms per household)

If anyone has had other experience or has a link to terms and conditions proving otherwise, please post. I would love to know if we could book b2b in the future.

No, B2B used to be the “exception” to the OBB 1 future cruise rule. I think it was when they went to the placeholders that it changed. No more exception for B2B. Sorry :(

Enjoy your cruises!

You can't book B2B cruises as an onboard booking. Only one leg or the other.

What I was referring to was, if there is a couple DOING B2B cruises, they can book 2 rooms on a future cruise during the first leg of their B2B and 2 more rooms on a future cruise (could be the same cruise as the first one) on the second leg of their B2B.

If you are on a B2B cruise, you can book a future B2B cruise. You just need to book half of it while you are on the first cruise, and then book the other half when on the second cruise. Each cruise in a B2B is an independent cruise, so on each leg you can book two staterooms or placeholders.

Thanks PrincessShmoo, CM Dad, and Lanejudy! I see what you mean now. Bummer that you can no longer book b2b anymore...but if we ever get a chance to take b2b cruises, I'll be sure to book two OBB's.

Thanks again! :)
