Can I ask a non-DIS technical question?

We got a scanner about 4 years ago...never learned how to use it. Got another one about a year and a half ago...ditto. I tried (repeatedly) to scan a picture to send an e-mail, and it wouldn't work. Are there some sort of basic, general scanning instructions, or a typical error that I might be making??? (It's an HP OfficeJet K80.)

Just thought I'd give the question (even if it is dumb) a shot here since you've been so helpful with other things. :)

NO!

No non DIS Tech questions are allowed her Mare!

Just kidding of course... ;)

How are you saving the file that you scanned? If you save it as a JPEG, you shouldn't have any problems typing an email as you normally would, then click on the "add attachment" function in whatever email program you are using. You'll then be asked to "find" the saved image that you want to send, click ok, then send it off.

Give it one more try, and send a "test" to chrisc@wdwinfo.com we'll have you set up in no time! :D

OK Chrissy (oops! I mean "Chris C" ;) ), I decided to attempt it again, after avoiding it for another week.

Just want you to understand that we're starting from scratch here. I know NOTHING, so talk slow.

This is what I've attempted...for all I know, I'm doing it wrong from the beginning...

I put the picture in the scanner as if making a copy. Then I pressed "scan to", and on the little readout thingy, I got these choices:

Microsoft Word
Microsoft Outlook
HP Image Editor
Readiris (?)
Scan Multiple Pages
Archive Photo
Scan Single Page
Archive Text

And that's about where I'm stuck.

I'd say choose HP image editor from those choices (not very good choices though).

Do you have any other image editing applications on your PC?

In your Programs folder (Start button, Programs) is there anything that even sounds like it might be able to edit a picture or photo?

Scanners are usualy easier to use from an application instead of directly from the scanner software (I stress "usualy"). If you can find a program that can do this, it might make this process a bit easier on you.

*Sigh* I'll try this all again tomorrow.

We obviously enjoy your company here Mare.

How else to explain the fact that we only give just bits and pieces of information, forcing you to return again, and again, and again.... ;)
