Can I add rented points onto my contract each year?

I think that makes sense. I am thinking of buying a 70 point contract used @OKW, and going every other year. On a couple of the villas, we would come up short by 20-30 points. I am wondering if we could rent the difference and combine the two.

If this is possible, am I correct in thinking that if the rented points are also at OKW then we could book at the 11 month mark at OKW, but if they are a different resort, then it would be booked at the 7 month mark.

Ideally, I would find a contract for 85-100 points but haven't run across any. Thanks for your help.

DVC will sell you up to 24 one-time-use points per year at $15 each. Those points can only be used to book at 7 months. (EDIT: Those are the current terms. Always subject to change, of course.)

A traditional third-party rental involves another member making a reservation in your name while still retaining control of the points. In that situation, you would need to rent points for an entire night's stay, and then have the two reservations linked together.

To illustrate, if you want to stay 5 nights and the cost is 15 points per night, you could book 4 nights (x 15 points = 60 of your points used) and rent the 5th night from another member. The two reservations would be separate entities but requesting that DVC link them together leads to one contiguous 5-night stay.

The other option would be a transfer of points from another member. With a transfer you have control of the points and could combine them with your own. Using the example above, you need 75 total points for the stay. You could use your own 70 and get a transfer of 5 points from another member to book the entire thing.

Transfers are limited to one per year and thus it tends to be difficult to arrange a small point transfer. Members who are looking to transfer away some of their points typically will not burn that one transfer on a 5 point deal (or a 20-30 point deal.)

Transferred points retain their original Home Resort and Use Year so you'll have to take that into consideration if you want to book at 11 months.

Thanks Tim! That's a lot of great info there. We've never looked into transfering our points to another member, nor have we looked at having points transfered to us, and I've not bothered with that part of the book since it never really interested us that much. This is a great break down of different options. Thanks again!
