can I add free dining if room already booked?

I have already booked a 2 room villa at Saratoga Springs for Jan 2012 through Davids Vacation Rentals (a broker for Disney Vacation Club rentals). My question is this, if Disney later adds free dining, will I be able to take advantage since I didn't book a package all together? I could get my tickets at the time it's offered, but my room is non-refundable.

I think they have only offered FD if you book a Disney package including tickets.

No. You must book a room (for cash) + tickets through Disney or a travel agent to get a free dining package. DVC owners staying on points are not eligible for free dining, and since you are renting from a DVC owners you can only get what they can get.

However, you can request that the DVC owner add the (paid) dining plan to their (which is your) reservation for you. I'm not sure how that works through Davids, but I'm sure they can tell you.

The problem isn't that you want to add free dining to a room only reservation, but that you want to add free dining to a DVC rental. If you booked through Disney and there were rooms available, you could cancel your room-only reservation and book a package with free dining, but since you booked through DVC, that's not possible.

Take heart in that you probably saved a nice amount of money by renting points. At $10 or $11 a point, that's a nice savings compared to rack rate. The owner can add the dining pan for you.
