Can I add a coupon for National when I pick up the car?

I made my car rental ressie awhile ago, we are going in January, so, I just found a coupon for an upgrade - my question is do I have to cancel the rental ressie I have and rebook including the coupon or can I just bring the coupon to the counter when I get the car and get the upgrade then?

You must add the coupon when making the reservation, make a copy of that coupon and hand it in with the reservation.

But, don't cancel your existing reservation yet. Do a NEW reservation and apply the coupon. It may be that you got a better rate on your first go thru. Decide which one you want to keep and cancel the other.

If the reservation was made online, you can also add a coupon to an existing reservation online, and all of the other terms of the rental will remain the same as they were. So if the base rate has gone *up* since you made the reservation, you would still get to keep the good rate you had. And if the base rate has gone *down*, you can simply make a brand new one to get the current rate.

If this sounds different from what you've experienced in the past - it didn't used to be this way. Maybe just the last two years or so. But the National web site will even show you both the old and new reservations side by side, and give you a chance to keep the old one.

This is a big improvement from National - it used to be that even *looking at* your reservation would sometimes cause it to be modified to the newer rates.

I've tried adding on coupons to existing ressies & the price jumped dramatically (of course lol).

as indicated earlier, try re-booking for a rate,

try adding it to existing too

just don't cancel the original, until you're durn sure.
